Help... GOG or SINCE 1912

Sorry guys,
I made up my mind to search for marquise shaped stones at GOG, but recently read how GOG was significantly higher on their settings.
I am too confused. Don't have a big budget for setting.... Help!

I'd still stick w GOG. The STONE is what you will see - you need to concentrate on cut quality, not settings, all things considered. You can always put the beautiful stone in a temporary less expensive setting and upgrade the setting to whatever you want at a later point (anniversary?). That said, they have access to an enormous number of settings at all price points. Show them a picture of what kind of setting you are looking for and I bet they'll be able to come up with something in your price range!

What kind of setting did you have in mind? I'm sure they can find a nice stuller, ardwar, beverly k, or gabrielle brand settings for a reasonable amount. Once you have a specific in mind, then ask for a quote along with a few other vendors to gauge reasonable range. I think it just depends on the brand (the vatche is definitely more!)

Is there a particular brand you want and so decided to work with those two? I find James Allen a great place to find both good marquise and cheap settings.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses. You are all correct. I would like to get the stone and setting at the same vendor. I am leaning towards a simple setting, solitaire or channel set stones down the shank. Don't know much about settings or preferred manufacturers.

Good Old Gold carries a VERY wide selection of settings in all price ranges. They are the best at finding good fancy cut stones, so I would definitely go with them. I do not consider that they are significantly more than other jewelers on settings.

babs23, I'm inferring from your other thread that this mq is for your DD & FSIL, and that they have a preference for B&M shopping?

If that's the case, I think GOG is a great option. Just make sure they are firm about their budget.

For any lurkers reading this who may be looking to buy marquise, pears and other fancies on the internet, however, I still think your best option is to summon Niel, who has a great eye for these cuts.

You've been talking about this one for your DD for some time. Ive been wanting to see it come to fruition so badly!! Whats your budget? what is she trying to get? I've seen a handful of lower budget JA settings that would look nice with a MQ, as well as inquired about a custom e/w solitaire that was surprisingly very well price.

You are soooo right!!!!!! They have started talking about rings and I am chomping at the bit! Going together for 8 years!!!!! Boyfriend is supposed to speak to me and says that it will be really soon!
