Hey gang,

I came across this wonderful site while researching the biggest purchase of my life so far. The tutorials and info helped soo much (i knew absolutely zilcho about diamonds before). I''m in my last year of school so money is pretty tight. I was looking for just the diamond for approx $3900 as my ceiling (I''m having it set locally). The online retailer that''s looking for me has sent me the specs for a diamond that he felt was a good candidate. I wanted to know what you all thought about it.
Here are the GIA specs:

Round Brilliant
0.90 ct (6.14* 6.20* 3.80 mm)
SI1 E
Very Good cut
Polish EX
Symm EX
No fluoro
Depth 61.6%
Table 58%
Crown Angle 35.5%
Pavillion Angle 40.8%
Girdle STK
No Culet
Star Length 55%
Lower Half 80%
Faceted (3.5%)
Clarity Characteristics: Cloud

This is the first diamond the retailer presented to me. I really respect the opinions of the members on this site and would welcome your thoughts.
My gf is tiny so she did not want anything over 1ct. The online retailer was not comfortable in giving an opinion on eye-cleaness with any stone less than an SI1 clarity.

thanks!

I''ve never heard of a trusted online vendor not being willing to say whether it was eye clean or not. Is this an in-house stone or a virtual stone? If it''s in-house the vendor should be able to look at it and check.

The stone itself is probably pretty, but it''s not top of the line in terms of cut. The HCA gives it a 2.7 "worth buying if the price is right". The personally think the table is a tiny tad too large and the crown angle is a little large to be a great combination with the pavillion.

If you want to save a little money to put towards the setting you could easily drop down to the G/H range and still have a very white diamond.

In agreement w/Kcoursolle. I like to use this tool to find nicely cut stones picking excellent excellent for cut https://www.pricescope.com/sift.aspx

Hello & welcome to PS!

I have to say I''m not overly excited by the diamond you posted. Using the HCA tool gives a score of 2.7 (very good). Usually a score of between 1 and 2 is preferred... and I think it should be possible to get a better stone than this.

Link:

0.8ct F SI1, GIA cert, Ex cut, Ex sym, Ex polish. H&A diamond.

Scores 1.5 (excellent) on HCA with Ex/Ex/Ex/Vg results for Light Return, Fire, Scintillation & Spread.

$3046.

kcoursolle, it''s a virtual stone. The vendor said he''s ordering it from India to have a look at it.

Cleo- that''s a pretty stone you picked out for a nice price. Do you think i could find a 0.9 ct with the same specs for under $3900?

Jamesallen.com has some .9 stones that are in your price range, but their inventory in this size ins''t that great. There weren''t a lot I saw that I liked that had pictures, but there were a few promising ones that didn''t have pictures yet. I would email them and see what kind of stones they can dig up for your that are better cut and in your budget.

Hey :)

I can''t find you a 0.9ct of DoW.com with those stats for that money.

This stone is 0.92cts and is an I SI1 for $3893 with GIA Ex cut, ex sym & ex polish. Also scores 1.6 (Ex) on the HCA with Ex/Ex/Ex/VG results.

I would say in order to retain the same quality of cut you are going to have to look to go down in colour grade, or clarity. I''ve taken you down to I with this stone, as there are many happy ''I'' owners on PS. If you don''t want to go down this far in colour, you may need to consider going to SI2 in clarity, although you will need to get the vendor to confirm if the stone is eye clean for you (ie. you can''t spot inclusions with the naked eye).
