Hello All:

I’ve been doing some research and trying to find a diamond for a solitaire engagement ring.

I''m looking for a diamond that is eye clean SI1(it doesn''t matter to me if you can see inclusions under a loupe), carat size .74-.86(I think), color D-F(I think).

Ultimately I want the best looking diamond for the money, to me (I think my soon to be fiancé feels the same) the fire and sparkle is more important than the size. I want to spend up to $3,500 on the diamond itself. Am I on the right track with the diamond below, found on James Allen.

Any recommendations,comments, advice etc?

Shape: RB
Carat: .81
Cut: Excellent (GIA) Ideal(James Allen)
Color: E
Clarity: SI1 (eye clean according to the rep I’m dealing with)
Florescence: Faint
Depth: 61.1%
Table: 55%
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavilion: 40.8
Cutlet: none
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Price: $3,370

Looks like a terrific stone to me! Do they have it posted on their site so you can see the magnified image?

I think you can safely drop color to F, G or even H and get a larger stone. F will look just as white in this size stone. G will too depending on the setting you choose. If you get an ideal cut, even an H will look sparkley white. I''m very color sensitive, but F is definitely white. In fact, I''m getting an F tomorrow from WhiteFlash.com!

Good luck!

yes the do and They also sent me an idealscope image (attached) and it looks good as far as I can tell.

is what I say! I love the icy white of D-E (unfortunately for my SOs wallet, I can tell the difference between D/E and F). If you are looking for an icy white, ideal cut stone then I think you have hit the nail on the head with this one! You mentioned that fire and sparkle in more important than size, so I am taking a guess and assuming here that colour might (?!) might be more important to you than size too, so I would say don''t drop colour to increase size in this case. Yes, you can get a larger stone with a lower colour grade, but I think a smaller (well, these are not really small stones you know, it''s just he PSitis) icy white stone will look stunning.

- I have an 0.8ct D VS2 ACA - I could have gone a fair bit larger in budget, but I felt like 0.8ct was plenty big enough on my 5.25 finger, and the icy white colour - I just can''t tell you how much I love it. She is going to be totally thrilled with her diamond! What setting are you thinking of? And of course, we need pics too!!

Looks great Mike by the numbers and Idealscope!! Good job!

Looking good. It''s up to you if you want the icy D/E/F look which I understand. Some prefer a bigger rock, so they drop the colour to G and H where it is still colourless. But you did well. Lovely stone.
