hi all,
i''ve been through the whole list, and decided to see if anyone was looking at great stones in the 1.0 carat range. .90-1.1 is fine with an excellent cut, polish ideal and symmetry ideal, in a color H or higher, and excellent clarity. H&A or Ideal stones are acceptable. HCA of excellent. Base price of $4500-5000. Can you post some candidates. I''d prefer a trusted name JA, WF, or whoever else is trustworthy. I''ve been trying to do my homework, but the diamond list is swirling in my head-and on the spreadsheet now. perhaps you have some "diamonds in the rough".

thanks
charles

hiya!

how about THIS ONE from whiteflash (it's an ACA) for $4950?

specs:
0.917 H VS2 61.4% 56% AGS thn-med f id id no 6.23-6.25x3.83 $5398 $4950*S

ETA: it scores a .8 on the cut advisor (Ex, Ex, Ex, Vg)

ETA: what do you mean by "excellent clarity"? i only searched for stones VS2 & above...

Charles welcome,

Though it''s a $93 (wire based) premium to your stated budget, I''d consider stretching to this one, based on consulting with WF whether they''d go for this, vs some of their other alternatives.

The premium gets you: G, SI1, 1 carat, and WF.

Otherwise, start with the search by cut db, consider peeking below my signature for a branching strategy, and best wishes,

And find out if the cavity on the plot is at the girdle (can''t zoom in enough online to see but it looks like it might be) and whether that''s an issue...if you end up considering this stone.

Good catch. I missed that.

thanks for the hints everyone let me follow up on those leads. will keep you updated

thanks for helping everyone. i''m almost prepared to buy.
so here is the list
whiteflash 0.917 $4950 6.23 x 6.25 po id sym id vs2 H hca 0.7 - aca h&a
bluenile 0.9 $4570 6.17 x 6.23 po id sym id si1 H hca 1.1 - signature ideal
bluenile 1.09 $4401 6.66 x 6.61 po id sym vg si1 I hca 1.0
jamesallen 0.95 $4176 6.31 x 6.33 po ex sym ex si1 G hca 1.3

i''m tempted by the bluenile 1.09, but will a .4 x .4 increase look any bigger at all-esp since the 1.09 has a sym of only vg (will that affect the look, the hca is 1.0)
or should i low ball it with the ja one, 0.95? it''s not inhouse so only upgradeable for 80% of its worth. there is no pic for the ja one, they said it should be clean-but there is no pic on the cert, they''d get back to me to make sure it is tomorrow.
whiteflash is also tempting, because it has a 100% upgrade policy.

what are your thoughts?

charles

ps those prices are after discounts.

Do you have links to the stones so we can see pics? Or if you don't want to 'out' the stones, can you post IS images, magnified images, etc?

I'd definitely want the option of 100% credit on an upgrade though, for sure.

here is the whiteflash link, i have it on hold. personally the images look beautiful.

bluenile 0.9 looks great too

bluenile 1.09

jamesallen 0.95 - this did not have images. i''m calling to make sure it''s clean. they said it is, even without a pic in the gia.

i''ve narrowed it down to the whiteflash, and the jamesallen.

the whiteflash is a hearts and arrow cut. vs2 H, with a hca of 0.7 -$4950
while the jamesallen one is si1 G hca 1.3 -$4176

i don''t think the upgrade is as important to me for the whiteflash
do you think the hearts and arrow cut will sparkle a lot more than the jamesallen stone? i was looking at the idealscope for the whiteflash, and i noticed all the white at the border. It''s about a $750 price difference. any opinions?

they are both eye clean from the pictures -the one here is the whiteflash picture

here is the jamesallen one. -note there is not idealscope image for this rock.

They both are nice stones, but going by the pictures available I like the WF stone better. Maybe if the JA also had an idealscope image, but going by the mag images I like the ACA.

FYI, the white areas on an IS image around the girdle like that are perfectly fine.

is there a particular reason why the wf stone looks nicer. from the magnified images they look quite similar to me. or am i missing something?

also will the difference in quality really be seen with an $800 difference?

Arrows don't [seem to] look as nice to me. It's nitpicky. Like I said, either stone looks to be beautiful. If they were exactly identical images I'd say go for the better color and lower clarity (JA stone). I just prefer the WF one. But again, neither is a dog!

Will you see the diff for $800, probably not. Did JA call that one in? Is that the one that's not in house?

yes ja did call it in. it's not an in house diamond. does that make a difference?

thanks for the response. i think i''m going for the ja one. i want to see it in person. there''s a 30 day return if i don''t like it. but i feel like it''s going to be a nice stone. thanks everyone for their responses. you guys really taught me a lot and helped me along the way-now to goto the bank :).

charles
I''m sure you will love it. It''s a very pretty stone.

And better cut than most of ones you''ll see out there, I''m sure!
