Hi, everyone, is my first time on PS, an so far is great with all the articles and advices, so i decided to post this looking for advices on How much this particular stone you all think is worth.

Round, 1.47 carat
Gia Certified
M. 7.29-7.33*4.42mm
Color. J
Clarity. VS1
Cut. Excellent, Polish. Excellent, Symmetry. Excellent
Total Depth. 60.5%
Table Size. 60%
Crown Angle. 33.5
Crown Height. 13.0%
Pavilion Angle. 40.8
Pavilion Depth. 43.0%
Star Length. 55%
Lower Half. 80%
Girdle. Slightly thick, Faceted ( 4.3% )
Culet. None
Fluorescence. None
HCA. 1.6 Excellent

I''M asking because the search to PS showed me a few stones, but all have for example, different cut, such as Very Good., or Culet such small or fluorescense, and as you see mine does not, or diferent grades of polish and symmetry, so one of my questions is, is this one those factors that increases the value of my stone described above.

The Thing is I want to upgrade for a 2.00 or 2.50 ct, and i want to know the price of my 1.47 ct.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

You mention wanting to get an idea of what your 1.47 is worth for presumable upgrade purposes. I take it that means you''re wondering what you can get for your stone in trade.

Keep in mind that you won''t get anything close to the prices you see on PS for comparable stones. Most of the time, the route with the best return rate is to put your diamond on consignment with a reputable dealer who can help move it for you.

Thanks,

for answering, but I just want to know an aprox. value not for trade just to know if the factor of better cut, polish, and symmetry etc. affects the value and maybe if my stone where on the same store perhaps it would be more expensive than the one with lower factors ( cut, etc... ).

Thanks, Skippy I used the tool and found a similar stone ( only 0.03 carat more but with similar measurement ) but with lower cut grade and some others factor. my question is that does better grades of cut and those factors increase the value on a stone.

0.03 carats more means the other stone is 1.50 carats and not in the same league (as there is a price jump at that magic half carat mark).

It's great that you are doing your homework, but I don't think you can expect to go into a store that didn't sell you your current diamond and expect them to give you what the diamond would sell for through an etailer for the trade-in. The truth is that you just can't sell a diamond as a private person for as much as a store with a reputation and services can. So therefore, the vendor doesn't have to offer you what it would cost you to get the stone new. They might try to give you a good deal because they want your business on the larger stone, but they might also realize that you're not going to get an offer better than maybe 50% (just throwing a number out here, don't take this as gospel) of what a stone would sell for through a store and just say like it or lump it.

You're right that an excellent cut and HCA score factor into the value of a stone. On the other hand, while your stone obviously has a great combination of angles to get the GIA excellent cut and nice HCA score, there are people out there would shy away from tables that large. And while flourescence can be a negative in some cases, in the case of a J, it's probably a positive. So I wouldn't nitpick about those little factors. They might affect an etailer's pricing (which you might able to observe by comparing like size, color, and clarity on a site like BlueNile), but not by enough to make a difference. If you say, "You owe me $200 more dollars because I don't have flourescence and have excellent symmetry!" they're probably going to think, "Oh jeez, another guy who thinks he's an expert because he looked at the internet."

I'd just tell them that you've seen similar stones going for around $7k on the internet and you know they'd charge more for that at a B&M store for the same stone (in other words, still being able to make a profit) and you hope they're interested in your business for the larger stone and see what they say. But I wouldn't try to use symmetry or flourescence or culet as bargaining chips; those are relatively minor factors in the price.
