I am looking for a nice diamond, I did my research and have read a lot about what to look when buying a diamond.
I have been in retail stores, looking on the internet and I have reduced my list to the following diamonds.
I just need help based on 4C''s and certification information I got.
Of course, size is what matters more, and color the less (this is what my girfriend ask for! lucky me!), and of course I care about price too, so the best for the price!

Ok, here is my list, please help which diamond would you chooce, and why? just to confirm if I have learn everything right about diamonds, hopefully this is a one time only purchase!

Cert. Cut Carat Clarity Color Pol/Sim Dep Table Fluo Price
EGL Ideal 1.07 SI1 H Ex/Ex 62.2% 57.0% None $3,641
EGL Premium 1.11 VS2 I Ex/Ex 61.3% 58.0% Faint $3,861
EGL Ideal 1.70 I1 H Ex/Ex 61.3% 55.0% None $4,118
EGL Ideal 1.20 VS2 H Ex/Ex 62.8% 58.0% Strong $4,174
EGL Premium 1.27 VS2 I Ex/Ex 62.3% 58.0% Faint $4,503
EGL Ideal 1.51 SI1 I Ex/Ex 61.4% 57.0% None $5,449

Thanks in advance to everybody!

Just notate in your searching that EGL does not grade as rigid as GIA and will be off by more than 2 letters. An EGL H is at best a GIA I color and can be a J color. An SI2 EGL figure I1. My first advice for you would be to go GIA to get away from the nonsense of the overgrading. An I color is certainly J/K at best.

Rule of thumb is whatever the diamond cost is, look up the price of a GIA certified diamond of that pricing and that is the "best" that EGL diamond could be if sent to GIA. It''s not just color and clarity, but then polish and symmetry vs. GIA as well.

Having said that it''s not like EGL makes a diamond bad, it''s just the gimmick game the industry allows with the pathetic overgrading that goes on.

The 4th one down is worth considering:
EGL Ideal 1.20 VS2 H Ex/Ex 62.8% 58.0% Strong $4,174

For the reasons Marty mentioned, I would count out all the I diamonds (unless you would be OK with a J/K) and maybe the SI1s, but definitely the I1, and I also wouldn''t go for any cut quality below ideal. I like that it has strong blue fluoro; this will work to your advantage because it will make the "H" diamond (which is more likely a true I/J) look whiter. The only thing is that it might be a little deep, but if you get the crown and pavilion angles, it will be easier to tell if that''s a problem. See if you can get a picture, IS, and ASET, or if it''s a diamond you can see in person.

Welcome,

We need the crown and pavilion percents to be able to give any meaningful advice, if you could post those please. #4 is a bit deep and could face up smaller as a result, and the I1 may not be eyeclean, so personally I would concentrate on the other diamonds. If any of the I colour diamonds turn out to be well cut, then they could face up quite nicely and still look white. We also need the girdle thickness and diameter measurements please. See if you can get Idealscope images as these are very useful for round diamonds. Also which EGL labs graded these diamonds? EGL USA are thought to be the strongest lab, so it is important to know if these are EGL USA, Israel, Antwerp or other etc. Have you looked at any GIA or AGS graded diamonds?

Is there any reason you are only looking at EGL stones? As the others have mentioned, they can be off by up to two grades, so I would suggest aiming higher than the lowest you are willing to go. I think many people are attracted to EGL stones as they are cheaper, but you have to keep in mind, that youl are probably paying the right price if you compare them to stones of lower grades.

That said, it doesn''t mean you can''t find wonderful EGL certed stones. I would recommend however, getting an independant appraisal, and make any sale subject to a confirmation of colour, clarity etc.
