Hello
I'm hoping you can help me find a diamond for my engagement ring. I'm hoping to find a square cushion cut diamond that's 4mm in length (or thereabouts), so roughly 0.4ct, or a bit smaller. Colour: D-H, Clarity: anything eye clean. Cut: the best I can afford!! My budget is about £2,000 (usd 3,000). I'm hoping you might be able to help. I love the look of Brian Gavin diamonds. They seem spectacularly sparkly!

I also have a question about ASET images: some hearts and arrows diamonds seem to have a lot of blue on the ASET images. Does this mean that they look dark? Or is it not an issue when you look at them with the naked eye?

Thank you so much for all your help.

On hearts and arrows stones the blue is usually the arrows. That's patterning and it's just fine.

Let me look to see what I can find for you. Are you in the UK?

This is bigger than what you want but well within budget: http://www.bluenile.com/uk/diamond-details/LD03804793 These Blue Nile H&A have been really amazing. And Blue Nile UK is going to be the easiest for you to deal with (prices don't include VAT or anything). All Signature line stones are guaranteed eyeclean.

But, why does the stone have to be 4mm?

Is it because of a setting? Can you get a setting that suits a larger stone? Because finding a .4 carat 4mm Hearts and Arrows stones is gong to be hard. They are usually too expensive to cut to cut them that size.

Otherwise you are going to have to go for a generic stone.

Blue Nile does not offer ASETs. But we've had many people purchase the Hearts and arrows line from them and get ASETs privately and they are all perfect ASETs. The cut is standardized. It is the one fancy from BN that I would not hestitate to buy, and yes, even without an ASET you will be fine with one of those.

Here are some generic cushions that have promise ask for ASET:

But even these are larger than 4mm. But they are the 8 main facet pattern and similar to a hearts and arrows style stone.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for these suggestions. I guess I'm not looking specifically for a H&A cushion - just anything that gives a really nice light performance! I'm looking for something around 4mm because I tried on a 3.9mm round brilliant in a jeweller and thought it was too small and I tried on a 4.6mm cushion and felt it was too big for my finger. I like August Vintage too but I'm worried the one on GOG is a bit big.
I don't have a setting yet. I'm based in the Uk. I'm not in a huge rush - I'm already married but am changing my e-ring.
I'm a bit nervous about buying something online without an ASET image. I know so little about diamonds (!) but an ASET seems to be useful wih cushions, right?

I agree with Gypsy if you are a nervous buyer stick with a Signature Cushion with the specs you want from the UK branch of Blue Nile. Otherwise I've purchased from a number of recommended vendors in the US and I live in Australia with no hassles, it's just a matter of being sure of what you want and being O.K with paying the taxes and duties.

I know people in the UK don't generally wear large diamonds but anything around 5mms or less is not going to be considered outrageous or large, and cushions do face up smaller than round brilliants.
