I am going to buy a pear diamond soon. Based on my knowledge of diamonds, I will either (1) get ripped off, or (2) buy something completely stupid. Need help finding pear within the below specs from a reliable online retailer.

Budget: Between 7-9K
Size: Bigger rather than smaller
Color: F-G
Clarity: vs2 - si1
I know nothing about cut, depth, tables, etc...

Basically, I am just looking for a decent deal on a pear shaped diamond within my budget . The specifications above are not firm. Instead, I am merely offering them to give you idea of what I am looking for.

Any help is bid time appreciated!

Trust you've already read the PS tutorial on pears?

What is the intended use of the stone - ring, pendant, something else?

Do you have preferences on L-W ratio?

There are a lot of badly cut pears out there. Avoid any stone without a photo and beware of stones cut to exactly 1.00 ct, as these tend to be cut for weight rather than an eye-pleasing shape. Look for a well-rounded stone that comes to an attractive point. Avoid those that are essentially rounded triangle cuts, that look like rounds with a point, or that look like they should have been a marquise.

Thanks for the response.

I will use it as an engagement ring. I already read the tutorial. I also did a fair amount of research. I don't have strong feelings about the L/W ratio. Mostly, I am just looking for a good diamond at a fair price. This should be easy, but it has proven more difficult than expected. I am a apprehensive buying a diamond based on my own research, because rocks with comparable specifications often vary in price significantly. I don't understand the price difference.

Your help means a lot to me. Thanks.

I would buy the jewelsbygrace one that tyty posted, it is gorgeous!

I love the jbg one! shape is divine

The jbg one is a bit "chubby" for my tastes, plus with L:W of 1:43 it is outside of industry norms of 1: 1.50 - 1.75.
However, some people like "chubby" pears.

FYI, my pear has L:W of 1:1.62 (right smack in the middle).

^^Ditto. The chubby one appears to be an acceptable cut, within a fairly broad reading of what's acceptable in a pear, but the others are clearly better.

I would add that pears on the edge of acceptable standards can often be haggled. I've taken up to 20% off asking price with certain PS vendors on the pears I've purchased, mainly by pointing out how the cut isn't quite right and making an immediate cash offer. Pears are a slower-moving inventory item and there's less of an obvious market price (unlike rounds), so making a well-considered offer may get you an attractive deal.
