Help finding online/interstate vendor for Gabriel & Co

I'm about to go wire my money for a diamond. But I want to use a Gabriel & Co setting that the diamond seller is not a dealer of, and have it sent to where the diamond is at and have them set it. The problem is, I don't know how to order the setting from Gabriel & Co. All they have on their website is a form to fill out to find a local vendor. I'm sure they'll get back to me eventually. But I was kind of hoping to do the purchase interstate to avoid sales tax. Does anyone know of an online vendor, or maybe just a good dealer of Gabriel & Co settings that isn't in California? I have the diamond dimensions (for the prongs) and the Gabriel & Co serial number for the setting, so it should be relatively straightforward to place the order.
 
i have been in to this jeweler a couple of times, and the owner is super nice and easy to work with. they carry Gabriel & Co. he was just telling me he sent a ring to someone in VA that he worked with via phone/internet.

I ended up talking with ID Jewelry, which is based in NYC in what I'm pretty sure is the diamond or jewelry district that people mention. I was a little worried because it took them a solid 24 hours to get in contact with Gabriel & Co and get a price and whatnot. But I just spoke with them and I had a pleasant surprise. Apparently ID Jewelry is a wholesaler, and they're going to sell me the setting for $695, whereas the Gabriel & Co web page for the setting said $890. That's a 22% less than I thought it would be!

So, thanks for the tips you two.

They said it'll take 2 weeks for them (ID Jewelry) to get the ring from Gabriel & Co. And then it'll be sent off to where the diamond is to be set. Starting to get excited.
 
GOG is also a Gabriel Vendor IIRC

I want to keep it all a secret for now. I'll post photos after proposal day, assuming she's okay with it. It's all so cloak-and-dagger! I've got to hide all kinds of emails and financial records... :geek:
 
Great! And IDJ is not a wholesaler, by the way. They just offer discounts on retail prices.

I ordered my Gabriel & Co setting from www.goldandgems.com....they were HALF the price of the website and a B&M store near me. They were great to work with also.

I'm curious at your decision to have it set by the diamond seller rather than the reverse. There are arguements either way and I like it best when you can do all three components from the same source (diamonds, mounting, setting labor) but, when that's not available I usually suggest using the mounting guys for the labor unless you've got a good reason why not.

Perhaps I'm just green and don't know any better! The diamond price was several thousand dollars, but the setting was about 700 bucks. I asked the diamond vendor about insurance during setting. They told me if something went wrong, they would insure the diamond but not the setting. I figured for 700 bucks, I would "roll the dice" and let the diamond vendor set it. (This is Brian Gavin / BGD for the diamond.) They did a good job, no problems. I didn't want to send the diamond anywhere for risk of losing it, damage, or being insured in someone else's hands.

I'm going to find that one thread and share photos of the ring to thank everyone here for their advice...
