Looking for help in finding the following:

Budget - $5k or less, I have a little more but need it for appraisal, mounting, etc.
Carat weight range 1.25 - 1.50 for a solitaire setting on a platinum band
Emerald Cut
Color - no less than I
Cut - no less than Good
Clarity - no less than VS1
Prefer a ratio of approx 1.4 - much less looks too square to me

I looked for similar in house, but nothing comes up. There are several listed in the "all listings" section, but many of them seem as though either the girdle is too thin or too thick, or the depth/table ratio is off.

This is to replace lost stone/setting.

Thank you in advance for your help/suggestions! This site is great...

What I would do if you aren't having much joy searching is to contact someone like Jon at -

www.goodoldgold.com and ask him if he could source you a nice EC, also like I explained before keep an open mind on depth/ table and girdles as you could in fact be rejecting some great stones.

will do, thanks Lorelei

Do you think my expectations are too high for my budget Lorelei? I got an email back from Sarah at goodoldgold.com that reads:

"We do not normally stock Emerald cuts so we would have to ship some in for you to choose from. This is how it works…
We get charged to ship individual stones in. We do not mind this charge as long as we know the customer is dead set on working with only us. The way we will know you are definitely working with us is by taking a $50 deposit. This deposit will be applied to your final purchase. We must do this as we have lost out on thousands of dollars in the past by shipping stones in for a customer and they either never get back to us or they say “you know what I think I am going to go with so and so on this diamond instead”. On top of that reason, we provide super valuable services that no one else on the web or in a store does.

When I am searching for emeralds I will not have access or be able to give out information on what the specs are but I will be able to provide a list of options in which according to our years of experience with fancy shapes we think would hold the most potential for a well performing stone.

Based off of the list you will let me know what you would be most interested in seeing, we will bring them in, publish web pages for the stones with all regular photographs/analysis as well as providing a video comparison for you. The diamond you choose will be backed with a 30 day return policy if we give it a thumbs up."

This is only a partial of the email, but is this routine? And if they don't normally deal with EC's, do they have the same expertise as anyone else? While I am hesitant to deal with them exclusively, my door is not exactly being banged down either. :)

One EC diamond she had suggested I look at was much larger than I was looking, but the table of 87.15% scared me off!

Try downloading the Gem Adviser file and play time simulation? I can''t do it at my present PC.

I think it might be a challenge getting that size for the budget unfortunately with those specs, maybe not impossible but it might take a lot of searching and a bit of luck.

The EC shown will probably show a hint of tint being a K colour, also the table is large, crown height isn't too bad but it might look a bit glassy in some lights as a result of the table size. Its not the best cut EC I have seen but if you are looking for size on a budget and don't mind a bit of warmth then it could be an option.

I can''t do the Gem Advisor from where I am. I did print out the Helium report from Good Old Gold''s site and the specs (if I am reading them correctly) says the table is 75.4% not 87. The rest of the report is over my head with Min/Max/Avg, angles, etc.
I am intrigued by the size, but am leary of the color, clarity, and table. It is "less" of a stone than I had before.
My previous stone was 1.21c, VS1, I color...was perfect for me. Hmmmm...still waiting on some reports from others.

I forgot to mention I don't think this diamond has a lab grading report by the look of it and also you would need to check very carefully that it is eyeclean being a step cut of SI1 grade. If you don't feel this one is for you proceed slowly, you want to get it right and find a diamond that is beautiful to you like your previous stone, don't settle!

the woman from good old gold says it is eye clean has nice optics with a lot of light being reflected....

I also think the initial table % is incorrect on the main page as the reports show differently. The crown is 9.9% but the pavilion is not available from what I can see.

This might throw some, and I am going to say it out loud, but I wonder if it is too large for me..yes, I just said that. I am a simple girl and was quite pleased with my 1.21c. I am intrigued by larger, but if its too flashy, then that is not me.

Lorelei, different note, are you a horse girl?

Good old Gold''s EC is un-certified. Is this a case of too good to be true?

Just ask to speak with Jon.

I see you did another thread where you have some great input on this so thats taken care of - and yes I am a horse girl!

thanks everyone...its a lot of good info.
I have become obsessed now. :)
Yes, Lorelei I started a new thread so that I could put a new topic and get some other exposure. Hopefully, that is not against the rules!

I too am a horse girl...my MFT is currently borderline colic-ing...waiting on vet.

thanks bgray...I see where you are going, and I don''t want to seem petty, but you are going the wrong way on the size. I don''t want to go any smaller than I had which was 1.21c I feel like if I have the $5k to spend, that I should maximize that best I can.

Lorelie, yes vet on way. She was scoped yesterday and its either an adverse reaction to the tranquilizer or my gut says they went too far with the scope and now her belly is upset.

oh sorry --i missed the size thing!

Sweetie is better I think thanks...little bits of hay all day...hasn''t laid down since around 8 which is good. no grain though till tomorrow to make sure out of the woods. such a scary/stressful thing!

On another note, I am in touch with Mark T. from engagementringsdirect.com. Maybe, just maybe, I am going in the right direction.

How is she today, did she have a comfortable night? I do know how terrible colic can be, I lost a horse to it....

Mark is a great vendor, you will be in excellent hands with him.
