Hi folks,

I'm looking to replace my engagement ring, which was recently stolen. The stone was a family heirloom :( so my husband and I didn't shop for a diamond the first time around. I've been to some b&m stores and also learned a lot from this forum. However, i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with information. I'd love some suggestions for stones to fit my ring (I've decided on tacori 2620 for the setting). I'm looking for a RB, approximately 1 carat, H to J color, eye clean SI1 or even 2. I mostly want a beautiful cut, and this is where I feel lost. Any suggestions? Thanks a million in advance.

i have heard wonderful things about brian gavin diamonds, and they have a signature hearts and arrows line that is guaranteed to have an excellent cut-- i would check it out!

there is a video somewhere of the 2620 setting with a J colored stone (a cushion, not a round) but that will show you the difference in color between the center stone and the halo and you can see if it bothers you...if so then I would stick with H/I.

use the 'search by cut' function to find some diamonds in your specs/budget (or just check out the ones stone posted!)

Since you diamond will be in a halo I would recommend sticking with H color of higher and go just below the 1ct mark. In the halo, and small size differences between a .90 and a 1ct are totally unoticable, halos are the great equalizer 8) So would would spend my money on higher color to match the melee in the halo and then go a weensy bit smaller.

Maybe like this, if you can find an H or similar size (this G is a few hundred over budget when you take the PS discount): http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-1040375560001

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I take it this means that the diamonds in the halo are G-H? I watched the video of the J cushion in the 2620; it did strike me as a bit warm. Do y'all think that a modern RB would face up whiter than a chunky cushion, since the facets are smaller?

Thanks again!

It will face up a little less warm. But the effect of cut on warmth is only apparent in bright lighting, in low lighting you will see the body color of your J color stone. I own a J, and would not halo it. But some poeple are ok with the contrast between melee and the center stone -- the contrast is not abotu the color of the little diamonds, it is about the nature of the light return in small stones compared to larger. Can you go see some rings and maybe see what a J in a halo looks like? It will help you make up your mind.

It will be alittle less warm, but still noticable. I think if you want it to match- stick with G-H for the center stone and go from there, if you don't mind your RB looking a little warmer than the halo then by all means go lower in color for the size.
