My son is ready to pop the question. However, he needs a ring. She saw one at Zales that she wants but I told him about this web site and i know he can get a beautiful ring with the help of pricescopers. Anyway, she likes an antique-ish looking rectangular ring with tiny diamonds surrounding the center stone. I believe this would be a halo pave set. The center stone can be a radiant, emerald or cushion cut, leaning towards what ever stone may be the least expensive. Also, I think the band had tiny stones on it as well. The size of the center stone can be .50 to a .75. I have been on many of your vendors web sites and its a bit overwhelming I am hoping you can help. Thanks in advance.

what is his budget?

I agree we need a budget but I think that of those cuts the most affordable will be the radiant, which come both square and rectangular. As you can see I favor the more rectangular shape :D . Also the setting you would be looking for would be a halo with pave down the shank. Does she like the one that have engraving as well for more plain??

I guess the budget is around 3k. As far as the band goes I am not sure. I remember the band as having what I thought was small diamonds. Thanks

JA will compare up to three diamonds for you to tell you which one is the best I would also ask for asset images.

setting within budget it can be modified for shape I would call to see what the additional cost would be

This was the only radiant within budget that I could see that had a nice appearance

Thank you, JA was the vendor I was considering purchasing from. I think the cushion shape completes the antique style she likes. Thanks again.

what about this stone maybe??

And it think it a good enough size that if you didn't want to put a halo around it it would be lovely in this type of setting

but if she really wants the halo there is this one (you can see examples of different shaped stone in the recenly purchased box down on the right hand side)

But that would take it over budget, but remember to ask for pricescope discount or wire discount

Thanks again for your help. Was on line with JA they are holding the 3 cushions for me they are going to look at them as you guys suggested. They are also getting the asset images. Not sure how to forward them to you. Sent all info to my son, hopefully we will like it as well.

Also that halo setting I linked is 900 in white gold that would save him some money:)

so exciting! I think that a cushion cut stone in a pave halo definitely nails the antique look :)

He needs to try down her preferences a little more. If they're open to subtle inclusions, they could get more carats for the money. If they're open to warmer colors, same story. You could get a full carat of K VS2 emerald cut, or G I1, or a much smaller higher quality stone... Emerald cuts have VERY different visual performance than radiants... there are just so many things up in the air here. I think most girls would prefer to sacrifice clarity for size/finger coverage, but that's a pretty important thing to know.

ETA: this has been on the secondary market for some time: http://diamondbistro.com/category/216/Natural-Diamond-Center/listings/24727/See-GIA-cert-and-appraisal!-704-VVS2-F-ring.html

As it stands now. He is looking at the .80 carat I-VS2 that farmargal found, (thanks) and the setting (11190w) that love my bling recommended. Which he really liked. He upped the budget to get the band with the diamonds. However, my question is do you think this will look good its hard to tell on line. Will the diamonds on the band be to small is the diamond going to be big enough. Missstepcut raised a good point as well. Should I sacrafice anything for a bigger stone. I definately want the sparkle and the antique look. Couldn't find much info for measusrements except table and debth. The stone above faired well. Waiting for asset images. She doesn't know much about diamonds so I think it would be easy to please her. Considering she wanted a department store ring. With that being said what do you all think. The total price comes in about 4k. Can he get more bang for his buck without getting a yellow diamond that doesn't sparkle. The above diamond is a cushio cut. Thanks
