Hello fellow PSer!

I started looking for a round 1ct stone to set in a replica Tiffany 6 prong engagement ring setting.
I have a budget between $6,500 to $7,000.
I am looking for a 1 caret, ideal/excellent cut, G-H color and VS2 or eye clean SI1.

What do you think of the budget?
From my research, I don’t think it will be possible get a signature stone from the preferred vendors (ie. ACA from Whiteflash). But I am confident with research and patient, a comparable stone that barely fell out of the signature criteria can be found.

In the meantime, i have my eye on this from BN, any opinions?

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Welcome! I would pass on the stone you linked. The pavilion angle is too high at 41.2. As the pavilion reaches 41 and above it will be more likely to leak light turning the diamond into more of a window than a mirror. Try to stick to these numbers if possible, though you can still find pretty stones outside these specs if the angles work well together.

Table 53-58%
Depth no more than 62.4 if possible (less than 62 preferable)
Crown- 34-35
Pavilion- 40.6-41

Use this tool and eliminate diamonds that score over 2. Any score under 2 is good, though lower scores don't mean a better diamond i.e 0.8 isn't better than 1.8.

Don't underestimate your budget.

You may be able to get a top-notch cut stone, after all. You mentioned Whiteflash, so I had a look there.

Here are 4 that are worth a closer look, all of them with exceptional cuts (some even ACA), that are eye-clean:

1.058ct, G, SI2

1.018ct, H, SI1

1.001ct, H, VS2

pfunk, thank you for the suggestion! I remember reading about the HCA tool when I was doing my initial readings, but I couldn’t make sense of the geometry. I though by selecting triple excellent, the diamond will sparkle nicely. And you are right, entering the dimensions into the HCA tool, yield a result of 3.7 very good.

Is there an easier/faster way to to filter loose stones by the HCA score?

Blusmurf: If you use the "Diamonds Search" under resources, you can filter for stones with good HCA ratings.

RockyRacoon, thanks for the recommendations. I actually think this one you recommended has potential. But looking closely at the images, in the ideal-scope, Aset, is that an includsion in the center? And in the hearts images, is that a circle around the center?

Should that be of concern, since the AGS report doesn't show it as an inclusion and it is graded VS2?

Blusmurf:

I'm completely new to diamond shopping, but this forum was very helpful in narrowing down what I wanted. I ended up purchasing from Whiteflash and narrowed my choices down to a few stones, one of which is the 1.001 H VS2 you list above. I emailed a representative and asked almost the exact same question about the stone. Bob Hoskins emailed me back and assured me it is eye-clean and the inclusion doesn't affect light performance. I ended up suggesting a slightly smaller one to my fiancé to lower costs - hopefully, I picked out a winner!

You can email someone at Whiteflash and ask any questions you have and I found they were pretty responsive.

Good luck!!

Yes, there is an inclusion in the center, however it is listed as eyeclean, so you will not be able to see it. Perhaps if you look very close or with a loupe. The report does show it.
