Hello everyone!

You have all been so helpful and you didn''t even know it. I have a big problem.

I found a Simon G setting at a local store that was meant for a round diamond.
I was told that a princess cut (the kind I would like to place in the setting for my g/f) has to be 5.0x5.0 in order to fit. I have not had any luck so far. I called James Allen and they said they are not able to search by measurement so i have been flipping through the pages with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated. The jeweler is calling Simon G right now because I need the ring before Aug 1st and it usually takes 4-6 weeks to make.

5mm x 5mm would be approx .82 ct but that would depend on the depth. So it will be a little bit of guesswork. I''m sure they''ll find you something.

The one on Nice Ice is not up yet, (at least as far as I could see) and I was too lazy to look up the Dutton's one.

Thanks for all your findings so far.
The one in WF looks amazing
I just found out from the jeweler that there I have a little more flexibility with the diamond. It can be between 5.0x 4.90-5.0. I hope to find one tonight within my range which is about half of the one posted about on WF. If I can''t find anything I will have to splurge. If anyone is interested I can post a pic of the ring with a round cut.

My advice to you... splurge. ;)

Oh please don't cut corners on the cut quality just to fit a setting! A beautiful Simon G needs a beautiful diamond... if your budget is less than you need to get an ideal stone to fit that setting, then please get a new setting made and get a smaller ideal diamond. Please don't try to find a .80ct for $1000! Something has to give (the setting, the diamond cut quality, or your time line), but please please don't make it the diamond that suffers! This is your e-ring!

Okay so I ended up finding a diamond on JamesAllen.com and I had the pleasure of speaking with James. They were really busy and I had to get my order in because it had to be sent out ASAP to Simon G. While waiting for rep to call, I decided to just call back myself to make sure that the order was placed in time. I give him major kudos for getting on the phone and taking orders even when he has hired people to do so. I received a confirmation and tracking number within a few hours and I was impressed. Here are the specs of the diamond:

Shape: Princess
Carat weight: 0.71
Cut: Ideal
Color: E
Clarity: SI1
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 71.2%
Table: 68%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick <------worried a little about this but im sure it will be great.
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 4.90*4.90*3.49
Ratio: 1.00

Regarding the setting:
At first I told my jeweler it wasn''t going to work out and she already called Simon G and said "no" to them. I took a few moments to think and called her back to talk about it. Since the are making a brand new setting, I didn''t think it was possible to get the ring by the 1st of Aug. Apparently it is!! When they first told me that they couldn''t make the setting fit a princess, I was so disappointed.I searched and searched for a similar setting and did not find one that I think my girl would like as much as this one.

The photo of the setting uploaded but in the preview I cant see it. If it doesn''t work, I will try again.

Great job! That sounds like a nice stone, and you didn't have to compromise cut!

As for that setting, it is lovely... I notice the prongs are at 12/3/6/9 (on a clock). With a princess, the prongs MUST cover the pointed corners to protect them from damage, the pointed endges can chip very easily. Does that mean that your princess will be starset? Typically, a princess stone is set with the corners at 1:30/4:30/7:30/10:30. Starset would be with the corners at 12/3/6/9. This is an unusual setting style, so just wanted to check that it was what you wanted and especially what you GF wants! Or will they move the prongs when they re-make the ring?

They setting will still have the 12/3/6/9 prongs. I can''t believe I didn''t think about this at first and I''m glad that you brought it up. I still think it will look great but ya never know until its in your hand. I''ll be crossing my fingers. Just searching online, I didn''t see to many rings with that type of setting. I''ve seen it called compass and star setting. I really wanted to get her something original and I think thats definitely what I have done. Thanks again for your response

I sort of think that if your gf didn''t ask for a star set princess, then you maaaaay want to see if it is something she would like. It is a setting style you either love or hate, no in between, and I always think that it is better to make sure that the woman will love it before doing anything too unusual. We get a lot of ladies coming on here upset because they are not in love with their ring... you got a nice stone and want a Simon G, both great things, I''d hate to see the setting of the stone color her love of her e-ring. Just my 2c. You know her best!
