I can't believe I'm at it again. I'm thinking of getting a high end diamond but of course, at the best deal. I would ideal long like to hit the 2ct mark, but I might settle for 1.75ct. However, what I would like to stay is within the quality of an 8-Star diamond. I've just been reading a bit in this forum over the last week and it seems like people are saying the you can get close to it with the premium lines at GoG, WhiteFlash, BlueNile Signature, Hearts on Fire with some dollar savings over the 8Star. Help! I need comments from unbiased pros who know their stuff. I guess I'm a novice collector. I have a 2.44ct radiant F SI1 w/ GIA cert and a 2.21 radiant FY/IF internally flawless GIA, both of which have been set into rings for myself (btw, I'm a guy). I bought the first diamond from a local reseller, and the other one from a local diamond broker. However, I've never bought online and I've never sought the perfect cut in a brilliant. I like what I've read about the 8Star diamonds. I have not seen one personally. The FIRE quality for me trumps brilliance and characteristics (although of course those should be very good also). I your value constructive insight, folks!). Thanks in advance.

8*'s are awesome, but damn they're pricey. If you hunt, maybe you can find one pre-loved. I scored 2 that way.

Hi ej,

What I would suggest is contacting someone like Jon at www.goodoldgold.com,, if I remember rightly - it's a while ago- I think he used to carry this brand. Explain to him what you are looking for, if not an actual 8* but one that performs similarly, he will know what proportions and methods of girdle finish to look for so he can find you a diamond that will be as close as possible. If you could find a Whiteflash New Line stone, those had similarities to 8* if one of those could be found. I would say before ultimately deciding, see if you can view a more traditional superideal H&A compared to an 8* type, if one can be found, to be sure which type appeals to you most. I haven't been able to compare both in person yet but from what I have read the differences are there in optics but subtle, maybe Ande can describe hers and the nuances she notices. :wavey:
