Hi everyone, ok so after 5 months of on and off again going to multiple diamond stores (helzberg diamons, Kays, Zales, Jareds, Ma and Pop solo stores etc). I think it might be better to just buy the diamond online and then maybe putting the diamond into a setting from one of those places. the issue is i dont know what to get. My future fiance is a HUGE fan of round and cushion cut diamonds with a halo setting. I am trying to find a good 1 carat main diamond for a setting like that but I know getting into the 1 carat range is expensive. But i also dont want to buy a diamond that is yellow or something and inclusions in the diamond that anyone can see. I would like to buy the main diamond for 2-3k if i can cause i figure ill probably be paying 2k plus for the setting as well. Any help i would absolutely love. Ive asked all of my friends but they are all clueless to this stuff and all just gave their wives a thousand dollar ring and refused to spend money on the ring and i dont want to do that. I am completely overwhelmed with all of this different websites and jewelry people are like car salesmen so i just want a great ring without being so overcharged. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP! :wall:

Welcome to PS.. :wavey:

Hate to give you the bad news, but $3k is next to impossible for a nice 1ct stone.

So a cushion or round cut 1 carat with no inclusions to the naked eye and not like yellow or brown is not gonna happen for 3k?

How would she feel about a preloved ring?

what does preloved mean? and yea my issue is im looking for a halo ring that is feminine and that the halo doesnt overshadow the main diamond. I keep seeing these thick settings that I dont want i like the feminine halo setting and one that will accent the main diamond. i looked at the love affair website you just showed and i actually really liked their mimi and kylie settings EXCEPT that the setting looked really high on her finger is the issue. id like it that style but not that high off the finger is all.

Hi, jacob
"Preloved" means second-hand (theres's been a previous owner); with the advice you can get here, it could be a nice way to get more bang for your buck.

What do you think of this petite halo setting offered by James Allen? The halo wouldn't overpower a smaller stone; the halo diamonds are nicer than what the mall stores typically stick in their halos; it sits low; and is reasonably priced ($1,120 for 14K gold, other metals available), so could free up additional $$ to put toward the center diamond. Plus, JA is giving 15% off on diamonds and settings until midnight on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Granted, it's not of the same calibre as one of the settings from Lovd Affair Diamonds, but It represents a good value.

Preloved is the pricescope nice way of saying "preowned" or less politely "used."

Anyway, I would stay off the sites like Love Affair, their halo settings, while excellent quality, are going to be out of your price range even in 14k gold.

My suggestion to you?

Cushions are cheaper per carat than rounds, because they "face up" smaller. However, they're also not what anybody else has, so there's that. My preference would be that if she likes a cushion, get her a good cushion, since they're harder to find and a lot less common. You can pretty easily buy a nice 1ct I/VS2 cushion for right around the $3k mark, here is a good example:

Molly, the 15% off doesn't apply to the diamond, just the setting. So in this case it would cover the shipping + setting fee to send in an outside stone so might as well. That was going to be my suggestion. The cabled halo is so adorable and it's $1000 in plat at full price, so it would be $867 in plat right now plus $130 for stone setting and shipping.

$3570 for the stone above, plus 997 for setting = 4567 and it would be less if you could pay by wire for the diamond.

Thanks for correcting me, my eyes obviously glossed over the small print underneath "15% off our entire web site" as I was zipping over to the halo settings page.
