Recently I have been looking for a diamond for my e-ring. And I have found a diamond which GIA graded with Medium girdle, but it doesn't mention if it's faceted or not. So if on GIA cert doesn't have a word 'Faceted', that means it's an non-faceted diamond?
I have read that a faceted girdle helps to make the diamond more brilliant in that it prevents any light from escaping from the girdle, is it true??

Should I avoid buying a non-faceted diamond?

If the word 'faceted' does not appear on the GIA description of the girdle, then the girdle edge is bruted which is another word for unpolished. There is nothing wrong with a bruted girdle, we've heard some people say that a bruted girdle is more likely to trap dirt than a faceted girdle, but we like to think that people clean their jewelry often enough that it shouldn't be a concern... The faceting or polishing of a girdle edge is really more of a finishing touch and is not likely to be noticed without magnification... It's all a matter of personal preference, personally we prefer ours faceted and polished at the very least.
