Hi, my fiance will order my engagement ring next week. We have already decided on a pear shaped halo from James Allen. We have established a limit of around $1400 USD for the diamond. My problem is that I have NO experience with diamonds and I don't know if the inclusions I see in these magnified images will be noticeable in the actual diamond. I have chatted with the people at James Allen several times but some of the diamonds they suggested have big black inclusions which makes me doubt they will be eye clean. Can someone help me find a good quality diamond within my budget?

Thanks in advance.

I would not go below a g for a pear. I have a k round and the color is beautiful. I had an H pear and the color looked dingy. Its just the nature of a pear.

Here are a few I found. The g is my favorite, but it does have that "black spot.... ".

If you have time and pull three in, the gemologist will easily tell you if they are eye clean or not. (I flound one d that looks really promising but its a tad out of budget. )

Now this is a bit of a stretch but being so chubby I think this marquise has the same look as a pear.... I know I know its not what you said, but its such a cutie I thought it was worth seeing.

I believe JA lights show different goes more then others (other PSers please correct me if you've seen other) but I suspect it wouldnt be so pinky brown in person.

But anyways, might be a terrible idea, but I thought it was cute ;)

Thanks for these suggestions! :)

The more I look at that .61 g the more I really like it. I suspect it to be eye clean too, but I would definitely have it pulled and have JA look st it.

What setting are you going with exactly?

That'll be pretty! I used to have a pear halo, but with a plain shank.

Do you have time to reserve 3 andet them review it? If so, which three are you thinking?

Hi!

I talked to the people at James Allen and went ahead to reserve these 3 and I am now waiting for the aset images.

I think they probably will be, and when you get your asets they will also give you their opinion after viewing the stones in person.

Good choices! I like the shape of then all. A word of caution about pears, the color is more concentrated in the top than the body, so that I will show color in the tip probably, yet not in the round part, so I'd make sure the person comments about the color, and if its pleasing or not. Also, the ASETS will NOT look near as good as a round or princess. So don't necessarily get discouraged, they don't always show the whole story when it comes to pears. So get the opinion of the gemologist that sees them with her eye. That's probably going to be the most important determining factor. Also, make sure to ask about the tip, make sure it sparkles, and doesn't look dead.

Cannot wait to see this!!

Haha I will be honest, a really chubby round almost oval marquise (chubquise if you will  ) is HIGH on my list of diamond priorities. I feel like its the exact opposite of everything I used to hate about marquise. You know, harsh and skinny.... chubby ones I think are a whole new animal, and I love them!

But! I think of the OP The pears she's going for will be lovely. Just wanted to put this little cutie out into the world. :D

Actually when I started thinking about engagement rings I was totally set on a marquise shaped diamond but then I fell in love with pears. I did love this chubby one you posted Niel, it is gorgeous.

Without seeing the aset images, I'd probably go for either the .61 or the .54. Since JA has confirmed all would be eye clean, those would be the one i'd consider.

So here are the ASET images of the 3 diamonds. In the email I got the following comments:

-The .61 G SI1 had a more "teardrop" shape but they found an indented natural at the tip and. Also it has a slightly larger bow tie than the second diamond.
-The overall light performance of the .54 G VS1 seems to be the best out of the three including the smallest bow tie.
-The gemologist didn't like this one so much since it has a larger bow tie and most of the light performance is closer to the point.

So I think I will g for the .54 G VS1. What do you think?
