Calling all experts...OK- I''m might go see a stone on saturday....but I was just curious...in your experience...is it more or less likely that a princess with a 65 depth and a 73 table is a dud? I''m so stuck on numbers, I might not even give it a chance. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT IT HAS A GOOD CROWN HEIGHT? 73 seems way big to me compared to the depth. HELP!!!

You'll find a link that shows you the light return of diamonds with various Tables and Depths. Some supprised me. I thought the numbers would be bad but the diamonds light return looked good, some even great.

You would get super light return if you put a flat mirror in a Gemex style instrument, if light return was all that was important. This is in no way denigrating the progress Gemex has brought us, but there is more to the issue than light return. A large table gives a huge reflection back to the eye. A large table may make a very nice looking and potentially bright stone. Will it have dispersion, scintillation, intensity? We just can't tell by numbers. It could be a decent looking diamond. Likely as not, it won't be as good as some other cut style, but could you even see the difference? Which would you prefer? It could be something very small that makes no difference at all to you.

The answer is, look and don't be afraid to choose what you like. Just do all the shopping you need to do BEFORE you spend the money.

Thank you all. I really fight the answer that there is no answer! Since I have you Dave... lol... what would you consider to be the best inclusions to have in an Si2 assuming they can only been seen through the pavillion and not face up...

THANKS so much!

Marks with little blackness, under crwon facets rather than the table, near the girdle but not in the girdle, not open to the surface, but totally internal. Possibly ones that a prong might partially obscure from view, but not ones that weaken the stone.

In other words, try to find an SI2 with SI1 clarity

case in point! 70 depth, 76 table...LOOK at those amazing results (but is that a typo, it doesn't look like a 76 table)...anyhoo....

I'm still so confused about how a large table does necessarily not mean you will have a shallow crown. ! Help!

Will the large table make the stone look steely?
