Ok,
So I got my wife a diamond pendant, it was a princess cut diamond and it was kite set (each corner pointed in a N,S,E,W direction) with no bale on it with a very thin white gold necklace. It was 1 carat a F colored and SI1 in clarity. Dimensions were 5.47x5.79mm
I realized after the fact that kite set was sort of goofy as the symmetry was not right for this setting, but I planned on re-setting with a halo, anyhow for her.
Anyhow, the stone seriously lacked any sparkle to it and I wound up returning it and finding an I color SI2, extremely eye-clean pear shape that is 1.33 ct. Much more sparkly. The dimensions on this are 9.54x6.24mm.
I have this in a simple basket setting with no bale and the same thin white gold necklace as before. Down the road, I do plan to halo this stone at some point and maybe incorporate another diamond or 2 atop it, perhaps a square radiant/princess set kite-style?
My question is this, does a kite set princess look as large when set diagonally, since the diagonal diameter is now the length and width of the stone? I feel like the pear, though larger overall in both L/W and carat weight looks smaller on her chest that the kite set.
Is horizontal better than vertical for a pendant as there is more width shoulder to shoulder than lower neck to chest to fill up? I do have a couple of photos for both of these pendants so that you can see for yourselves. I will include her other jewelry so maybe that can help see what see has and what is best for her?
FYI, I also happen to like clean lines and am wondering if I should return the stone and find a larger square radiant or princess and halo it? Everyone on here is always so helpful so I hope for some guidance. My wife has a rectangular radiant engagement ring with a halo and a 5 stone round ring for a wedding band. Her earrings are princess shape and she has jackets that sort of mimic the halo of her engagement ring. She sometimes wears a tennis bracelet of rounds, too, so I am not sure if another diamond shape would look too random? I would never list her jewelry, but this forum is full of such knowledgable people, I figure if you know what she has and wears, it might help.
