Hello Everyone:

I recently received a beautiful solitaire 1.61 carat princess cut ring from my DH for our anniversary. Even though I think it is beautiful we both know very little about diamonds and wanted an opinion from others that know a little more. I have all intentions of getting it appraised but would like your opinion as well. He won''t give me the exact price (since it was a gift) he did sayd he paid between $9000 and $10,000. Since it was the sweetest thing he could have done since I always wanted a diamond larger than the 1.0 carat I got when we first got engaged 13 years ago, I want to make sure that he did ok and did not get taken for a ride. I do love the ring but the fact that he gave it to me could be influencing me just a bit.

What do you think, did he do okay?

Also, I am in NYC and would love some names of independent appraisers you may have used and found to be reliable and reasonable.

Mrsg730, welcome to the forum and congratulations with your anniversary!

I ran price comparison for similar diamonds listed in the web from the front page. $9,000 - $10,000 price range sounds pretty reasonable.

Did you check this page for independent appraisers in NYC?

I don''t know much about princess cuts, but you can find an appraiser in your area recommended by pricescope by going under the resources tab, then appraisers, then your zip code. Someone should chime in here about the cut of your stone.

Congratulations on your anniversary and a new diamond upgrade!!

oops, looks like I didn''t type fast enough. Admin already helped you with appraisers.
