I have asked my jeweler to get this diamond in for me to look at. It is an F SI2 round. 1.77 carats.

The table is 57
Depth 61.3
Crown angle 35
Pav. angle 40.8
Strong blu flo.- yeah!
It gets a score of 1.6 with HCA
I am puzzled that it only got from Gia a very good cut rating and both the polish and symmetry are only good?????????
The girdle is th-med.
I know I have to check if this is eye clean and no cloudy or milky with the strong blue flo.
Any other thoughts on this diamond?

Thanks!

I figure I might as well give you the other diamond they are getting me.
round 1.85 carats J VS2
Table 55 Depth 62.1
crown angle 36
pav. angle 40.6

girdle th-med.

Exc. cut grade from Gia
Big bummer here- no flo.!!!!

Excited to hear your thoughts- this diamond hunting is exciting, but a little confusing to a newbie!
Thanks again!!!!

A diamond can have great proportions (HCA score) and only good finish (polish and symmetry). HCA does not take finish (polish or symmetry) into account. I suspect it''s the finish that is giving this diamond a Very Good cut rating from GIA. If the finish were better, say Very Good or Excellent, GIA may well have given this diamond an Excellent cut rating.

Both look like good possiblities. Check the SI2 if it''s eyeclean and check the girdle thickness.

That is my question, if the HCA score is excellent, but the Gia polish/ sym is only good, will it still more than likely be a beautiful, sparkly diamond?
Thanks!!!!!

Anyone?

Yes, going by the proportions of the first diamond it should be a pretty stone! Good and above for polish and symmetry is said to look indistinguishable to the naked untrained eye.

Thanks so much for the answering my question Lorelei - I appreciate it very much!!!!!

ditto, there might be some very slight symmetry issues that won''t impact the overall appearance of the stone.

They both have potential, if the first one is eye clean that''s the one I would take.

Thanks K! I would prefer the F over the J too. I really want the blue flo- bad! I have my fingers crossed that the F is eyeclean. I will make the trip to Omaha when my jeweler is back from her vacation in a couple of weeks. I can''t wait!!!!!!
