At my urging, my father gave my mother this beautiful green tourmaline for mothers day. I''m not even a green gal and I''m smitten! She is thinking either a halo or 3-stone and she''s into antique looking jewelry, it will be in yellow gold. I''d love to see what your ideas are so that I can pass them on to her. Also, is tourmaline ok for wear in a ring?

I would put it into a LOGR Legacy, especially if she likes antique styles.

If your mom is hard on her jewelry, and doesn't care properly for it, then I wouldn't get her a tourmaline. If you do want to do a ring, I think an LOGR legacy is a good idea, and it's based on the Edwardian style. I'm pretty predictable in my setting choices though!!

What a lovely gift idea for your mom!

Very pretty. I think an LOGR setting would be wonderful.

Plus 1:) I like the color and cut of this tourmaline!

TL-thank you for the info. I don''t think the stone could be pried out of her hands at this point! She will be wearing whatever ring she makes as a rhr for occasional wear so I don''t think she will rough it up too much.

I will pass along the LOGR suggestion.

I would love to see it in a James Meyer setting. That green would be stunning in one of his untreated white gold settings.

stepcutgirl, nice stone!

Will you consider a 3 stone setting?
And personally i would prefer WG for this green tourm.
I am a YG person myself, but I think this green has a little tiny yellow in it, and YG might exaggerate that secondary hue.

How large is the stone?

I can certainly imagine it as a 3 stone RHR, and since it’s an occasional wear item, it should be fine (fingers crossed).

blackberry-I have shown her a few JM pieces that I thought for sure would sway her but she said she just doesn''t know.

BDM-I love that ring and yes she is considering 3-stones. I will show her this pic. She is 100% on yellow gold. I thought the same about the undertone of the stone but in person it is a pure green and it is amazing. I now am saving up for my own BB!

Ma ra-it is 2.15cts and 7.5mm

Chrono-I''m with ya on that. I''ve gone from thinking all stones should be halo''d to wanting to see everything as a 3-stone!

I guess your best bet is to show her as many designs as possible and hope she likes at least some...

It''s really not important what someone from the forum would do cause we all make subjective judgements. For instance I wouldn''t go for a halo, since I prefer halos in pieces with larger gems, but that''s just a preference. I''d consider a three stone with something not overly brilliant, like small marquises or pears. But if she happens to like halos that''s what she should get, naturally.

WOW lovely cut and size on that stone. So IRL it has less/no yellow? VERY nice. Tell your Mom Congrats! from us.

Antiquish would have tiny diamonds in the shank of the ring.... but I like that look.

I also think a 3 stone would be very nice, but not antiquish. TFS!!

Correct, IRL there is no secondary color and Barry says it is a pure medium green, which I feel is correct. It looks 10xs prettier IRL.
