Hi Everyone,

I am requesting a little help deciding on a stone for my gf. I set out originally to do this last year but do to some unforeseen work circumstances I did not feel I was ok pulling the trigger. However, the time has come to build a ring.

Below are the 5 choices that I think I narrowed it down to at this point (other suggestions are welcome):

1) https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/0c1dph-2.211-h-vs1-ideal-antique-cushion

2) https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/55416k-2.017-h-vs2-ideal-antique-cushion

3) https://www.victorcanera.com/diamonds/h33m5z-2.077-g-vs1-ideal-antique-cushion

4) http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-...ue-cushion-cut-diamond-gia-g-vs2#.WNlduxR7Tww

5) Likely out of my price range but here it is: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond-...S-G-VS2-diamond-stock-14164-cert-104052687001

Thanks in advance for the help.

All of these stones are gorgeous! What type of setting are you going to put the stone in? I ask because Victor will not set stones from GOG, so that's something to consider. Also, does she prefer a more square or more elongated stone? I really like the 2.211 of your picks. I personally think the GOG is a bit too expensive compared to these others for minimal size difference.

If you were stretching the budget and wanted a bit larger of a stone, this one looks nice but I prefer the stones above: https://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/...brilliant-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-745967.html

I was going to inquire with VC about doing a custom setting. I like the idea of the elongated stone as my gf has slender & slightly longer fingers. Honestly, I am initially attracted to the 2.017 because the uniformity in the ASET and Idealscope. Not to mention the price is more attractive. However, I don't want my judgement to be flawed because of price alone.

PS the GOG stone has been around approximately a year and started on consignment. Im guessing this is a good indicator that it is overpriced

The 2.017 is very nice but it's a bit smaller. Here's a visual for you to compare that one with the 2.21 (I made it on a size 5.5 finger with a 2mm shank). This was part of why I preferred the 2.21 - I feel it has a nice balance of price, specs and size compared to the others.

I like the 2.21 H also. Nice balance of size/color/cost.

If you want Victor to make the setting, you will need to buy one of his stones. Incidentally, these are all antique style cushions, not modern.

With these cushions, you must be looking at diameter measurements and not weight. They can vary in depth and that affects face up size. The 2.21 is definitely going to appear larger, as others have mentioned. I also like that shape for an engagement ring.

Just as an example, this one is slightly larger than the 2.21 but is 2.15 cts:

The GOG stone actually faces up larger at 7.75 x 7.75mm. So just be sure you are looking at diameters of any stones you are looking at.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. I appreciate the help. After viewing #2 & #3 in person I decided to go with the 2.21. I honestly can't tell the difference between the g/h. Better news is that the small differences in the ASET are negligible when viewed with the eye. The pictures of the diamonds are so large on the web that it was hard for me to realize what a small difference that makes in these stones when viewed live. Please don't mistake my words for saying it isn't important...just saying it is less important when comparing the two I referenced above.

Victor is doing the setting as well. It will incorporate some of the aspects of the jocelyn in a solitaire style with pave on the shank/prongs/basket...trying to do prongs that transition from a solid pave but transition to mimic double wire at the crown... I'm sure he will provide a great finished product

He does impeccable work...I'm sure it will be amazing! Pictures when you can...

Sure will....it looks like I will be able to post those around the 1st week of may! Thanks again.

This is going to be absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see the final product! And thank you for your feedback on the stones/minor differences after seeing them in person! Very helpful! :read:

Have another question. Now, I get that I am being needy, and perhaps a bit hypocritical but can someone take a look at the ASET on the website and then the one on the AGS cert? The cert appears to have diminished light performance when compared to the ASET provided. This could just be a case of ignorance, so if I am second guessing myself for nothing please let me know. Please understand I am not saying this is a misrepresentation on VC's website in the least. He and his team really have been nothing but great.

The ASETs on AGS certifications are computer generated. The ones taken by VC on his setup are a much more accurate representation - they can control placement of the stone, lighting, focus, alignment, etc. which are all super important in taking an accurate image.

Thank you for the insight and clarification.

Update....Victor completed the project and the results are exactly what I had hoped. He was great to work with and 100% provides the personalized service and time that everyone applauds him for in these threads.

Took a few quick pictures....I think the specs are 2.21 H VS1 CAC with single cut melee with split claw prong.
