Hello everyone - first time posting to this site although I have found other postings very useful. I am deciding between two stones and would appreciate any comments about the two (especially about the one Idealscope image I have):

Diamond One
Carat: 1.72
Color: D
Clarity: VS2
Polish/Symmetry: VG/VG
Table: 55%
Depth: 61.3%
Crown: 35.0%
Pavilion: 40.6%
Inclusions: Two crystals in the table (which are black but do not reflect); natural indent, natural, and feather. The stone is "eye clean" and the ideal scope is below.
Diamond Two
Carat: 1.70
Color: D
Clarity: VS2
Polish/Symmetry: VG/VG
Table: 57%
Depth: 61.6%
Crown: 34.5%
Pavilion: 40.6%
Inclusions: Clound in the table; miscellaneous needles and feathers, natural, crystal, extra facet. This one is also "eye clean."

Any help would be much appreciated.

The numbers on both of these stones are very nice, both should be pretty diamonds. It's a tough call between the two of them. I might go with number one personally because I like the smaller table more.

The ideal scope shows very little leakage, but lacks a little visual symmetry. The symmetry really isn't a huge problem though and will only be a slight visual difference.

If you wanted to save some money, you could easily go down in color to a G without much of any visual difference, but some prefer a D colored diamond and there's nothing wrong with that.

One other thing, you might want to get the ideal scope pic for the second to see if it''s any better. The more I look at the first ideal scope pic the more the symmetry starts to bug me.

Symmetry does seem a little off on stone number 1. See if you can get an idealscope of stone #2, and unlike kcoursolle, I like larger tabled diamonds.

hehehe I''m not good at this so take this with a grain of salt... but I like #1 because of the smaller table and higher crown % LOL I''m such a sucker for those :)

that idealscope is wonky though... I was looking at a 3.2 carat with really super wonky hearts yesterday and I pointed it out that it was like three nice ones and a bad one and the two bad ones were opposites... she got huffy... but you do have one wonky arrow there... dunno what that means exactly!

hey rod - what do you see in larger tabled stones that attracts you? more "leg" so to speak? I could see how that would be attractive... I''ll take one of each please!!! hehe ;)

Cehra.......as long as the crown and pavillion are appropriate to a larger tabled stone, you can get the best of both worlds, IMO. Larger tabled diamonds can look larger without sacrificing fire or scintillation. Of course as the owner of a 60/60 stone, I''m a bit biased, but I wouldn''t hesitate to buy another larger tabled stone in the future.........

Welcome to PS

My preference is for #2, but see what the folk at WF think is the best performer out of the two, both should be stunning but see which one has the " edge." Also it is said that if you look at the " hearts" as well as the arrows of a diamond, this can be telling too regarding the IS of the first diamond.

My preference is #2. I have a 57 tabled stone and love it...my ideal table would be 56 but between 55 and 57 I choose 57. Like others have mentioned I''d ask for an IS for stone #2 also. #1 is a bit off on the arrows but I''m sure it won''t be a huge deal in the performance as both stones look to have good numbers. I own a D marquise and a G round and I can barely see the difference in the colors. Face up they both look VERY white and only when I turn them on their sides to compare is where I see the slight tint in the G. If you are inclined with D that is your preference...I''d probably look to go down in color and get EX/EX polish and symmetry...but those are my preferences. Good luck
