help! confused about HCA score

I recently posted specs for my diamond and got rave reviews from everyone about the measurements. It got excellent ratings on all areas of HCA and scored a 0.9 from HCA. The measurements are all withing Tolowsky''s ideal diamond measurements. I thought a 0.9 was a good score but I saw another post here saying the ideal HCA score is between 1 and 1.5. Now I''m confused, do I have a good stone or not?

The HCA doesn''t allow you to choose a stone, it allows you to reject certain stones. Anything scoring over 2.0 would typically be rejected, and anything scoring less than a 2.0 is considered a potential goodie, and should be evaluated more. Once a score is under 2.0, increments are meaningless. So if it scored under 2.0 and got raves on PS, you have agood stone

The HCA isn't used for selection, but for rejection as DD says. That is incorrect information that the best HCA score is 1 - 1.5. Diamonds which score 2 or below are generally considered to be worthy of further evaluation, this is done with Idealscope images, trusted vendor input and ultimately your own eyes. Once you score 2 or below, it is more like a pass or fail system, or sorting the wheat from the chaff - not a case where the lower the score, the better the diamond. You have no need to worry, you have a beautifully cut diamond!

I filled the stat of several solasfera diamond into HCA, all of them got score from 2.4 - 3. Is it because HCA is the calculation of traditional round cuts?

I don't know how useful HCA is for Solasfera, as the HCA is intended for the usual 57 facet round diamonds. As far as I am aware, Solasfera has 92 facets, so to the best of my knowledge, the HCA's use is limited with this type of diamond, so I believe you are correct.

Very well said, Lorelei and Dreamer. Paul-Antwerp once explained to me how frustrated he is by the incorrect information about HCA’s under 1 being less good than those between 1 and 2. It is good to see that this misperception is being corrected by well-informed consumers!
