Hi there,

I have been going through all of the forums trying to work out if my Fiance has purchase a good diamond or not and I still have no idea!!

We do have the option of swapping it out if necessary.

I have seen the diamond in person and I couldnt see the inclusions, but my eye sight isnt the best!! It seemed very nice, but to be honest I dont know what I was really looking for.

The diamond merchant we went to is very well respected and when I questioned her on the VG cut and inclusions, she said it would make no difference to the ''sparkle'' factor, as this was really important to me, that and colour and size. I can deal with inclusions as long as it is eye clean.

When I got a copy of the cert it has a ''cloud'' on it, in the middle and now I am worried about it being sparkly enough.

Definitely need an IS/ASET image for that stone, might have obstruction issue with that pavilion angle.

Hi mrs

Yes grade setting clouds in SI2 can sometimes impact performance, ask the vendor or an independant appraiser to evaluate the stone for you concerning this.

The diamond in question could be a contender, it falls within fiery ideal cut range ( FIC), however as SC rightly advises an idealscope image plus vendor inspection is essential with this stone due to the shallow pavilion angle to check for obstruction. Obstruction is where a shallow proportioned/ shallow pavilioned stone can darken visibly at close inspection due to the viewer's head/body blocking light to the diamond. Sometimes because of this such diamonds can make better pendant or earring stones because they are not viewed in the same way as a ring so obstruction isn't an issue. The diamond is facing up a little small for the weight, it should have the diameter of around 7.20mm give or take a bit.

So check the cloud and for obstruction by asking the vendor - and if the stone is eyeclean. Assuming you get a positive response to those questions and if you can get an Idealscope Image post it and we can go from there.
