Hi, I have been gathering as much information as possible from the forums and feel that I am at a point where I understand about as much as I am able to. Unfortunately I am a bit of a perfectionist and plan to buy an engagement ring for my gf online. I would really appreciate it if any of you could help me out.

For the setting I plan to get a thin (2mm probably, ring size 3.5) 6 prong platinum solitaire. That''s the easy part.
For the diamond I want a round, close to 1 carat, VS2 or better, H or better. Also generally easy.
The hard part: I have learned that the cut is the most important, so it just comes down to finding a great cut for under about $7000 without having to sacrifice any of the above.

Here is an example of one that looks good to me. I was wondering if you think this looks like a good deal or if you have any other suggestions since this is pushing my max price.

If you are open to considering SI1 clarity stones (many are eyclean, and if so, why pay for something you can''t see, however I totally understand the need for a mindclean stone too). Here are some great stones and they are about 1k cheaper than the one you posted, just for the drop in clarity.

If you still are set on VS2 clarity, then that stone looks to be your best bet I think.

Is you budget inclusive of the setting? A plat setting like that will run around $800-1000 I think, so you need to allow some $$$ for that too.

Don''t forget to post pics!

That''s a gorgeous stone, no doubt! If you want to lower the price a bit, something will have to give. As honey pointed out, going to SI1 might help, there really are eyeclean stones in this clarity range. Just have GOG eyeball it for you, they will be quite honest, as they don''t want it coming right back to them!

Here''s a few I found, with differing specs.

If you wanted to stay at VS2 and get just a bit smaller.

Very rare size.

And another slightly smaller, higher in color and clarity.

HTH!

Thank you all so much for your quick and extremely useful replys. I was looking for a stone around $6000, but your feedback was so good, I think I could make the original one work. It is so tempting to save that $1k, but hey, what are you gonna do. Thanks again, you guys are amazing.

I just though of one more question if you don''t mind. When I do contact the jeweler, what questions should I ask. Confirm that it is eye clean...? Any other important ones? Thanks again.

Yes, tell Jon what your expectations are concerning the '' eyecleanliness'' of the diamond, and he will let you know if it is a good match for you, I would anticipate VS will be fine though.
