I have decided to return my current diamond to JA for ASET. I need to choose 2 other potential replacements in case I don't end up going with my current stone. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-VVS2-Very%20Good-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1398089.asp

I want to use my 3 ASETs wisely, so I could really use some input. I need to stay under 11k for the stone, and would prefer d-f only, eye-clean. I really like the spread of my current stone and would like to stay near that overall...I don't want a new stone to look much smaller-
Measurements: 7.53*5.45*3.50.

These are the 2 I have on hold currently. I don't know if they are reasonable picks or not. If anyone wants to take a look and give their input I would appreciate it.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1372181.asp I would add this one.

I would have the gemologist pull the two you have on hold plus this one. Have them pick the two best performers from their inspection of the three (eliminating the poorest performer) and ASET those. Also get a Sarin. You ideally want a crown height over 14%

I know you said D-E-F but this G has some potential if the gemologist can tell you why it only has good symmetry. In case you wanted to give them another option.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1305493.asp From the pics it has promise and it's a good size. (A G diamond is not the color depicted in the picture. It will be virtually indistinguishable from an F).

Hi Emeraldnewbie,
Do you know how to interpret an aset?

One thing to keep in mind here that emerald cuts can take many different paths of cut to get the results.
For example, maybe one member may love emerald cuts with a higher crown, smaller table.
But if you want a stone that looks large for it's weight, a crown over 14% will likely kill hopes of that.

It's like asking someone what type of shoes you should buy
They may love high heels- but they might hurt your feet.
The point is, it's an individual decision.
If you've seen someone's emerald cut and want to buy a stone that emulates that particular look, then trying to get the same proportions might help.
But if not you could end up with a stone a particular member loves- but you don't.

Back to my first question about aset...I'll be you can interpret photos pretty well........ :wavey:

I have come to the resolution to keep my current stone. I spent the weekend gazing at my beautiful EC ring (and getting compliments from strangers =) ) and just came to feel in my gut I need to keep this one.

I SO appreciate the help you've given me and have certainly learned some things for next time around, if such a day comes!

Thank you for the shoe analogy. It helped me find acceptance in making the decision to keep my current EC. I do love my EC and feel an attachment to it. I accept that it may not be as perfect as an educated PSer would choose, but it is beautiful and pleasing to my eyes. And I realize that is what really matters (and of course DH thinks it's lovely too).

Thank YOU Emerald Newbie!
It's a big world of diamonds.
There's so many different well cut stones- and part of what makes this business so special is that there really is no "pinnacle" when it comes to a stone like an emerald cut and how to cut it.
More like a Plateau.

If you go into Tiffany's and look at emerald cuts, then go across the street to Harry Winston you may see to totally different emerald cut- that look totally different- yet both may be incredibly captivating.
Maybe one is more of a high crown stone with fiery flashes- and the other might be a "spready" stone which looks larger , yet still has lovely steps.

Another aspect we did not even touch upon is the corners- the size of the clipped corners makes a HUGE difference- and can change the personality more than many other aspects.

Anyway- the point here is that many experts might look at your diamond and feel it's well cut- I have not seen it so I can't say that for sure.
I can say that there have been stones that are knocked by consumers that may be considered VERY well cut by actual experts who have the stone in hand- as opposed to trying to judge based on photos, aset , stats, etc.
