Hi,

Thanks for reading! I'm planning to surprise my mom with a pendant for her birthday, and have found a spready pear (shallow, but I guess that's ok in a pendant). It's about 9mm long and 5mm wide. I was initially thinking of a simple basket setting, but the idea of a halo grew on me - everyone loves presence, I assume - now I can't decide which of these look the best.

The chain is meant to be yellow gold, the setting 14/ 18K white gold or platinum. The stone is a J.

Am torn between chain lengths too - would 16 inch or 18 inch work better in your opinion?

Comments/ suggestions/ insights from all you lovely, knowledgeable ladies (and guys, too) will be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

I should add - I'm working on the pendant with GOG, and the settings are Stuller.

I have a solitaire pear on an 18 inch chain which I think is a perfect length for me (I'm 5'8" if it makes a difference). It hangs about
2 - 2 1/2 inches above the start of my cleavage.

I like #1 and #3. Not that much a fan of #2.

My solitaire is sort of like #1 on a double bail but if I was going to re-do it I think I like #3 the best (but also still like #1.)

Thanks tyty333!

Really, really appreciate your input - it's very useful for me to get a feel for what does NOT appeal as much as what does - I need all the help I can get, as I can't ask my mom outright (really want the surprise), and I'm afraid I'm rather hopeless when it comes to matters of taste in jewelry, where it would obviously be desirable to have maximum visual impact, yet not to the detriment of an overall pleasing, balanced look.

I should have mentioned this earlier - all the settings cost about the same, so price is not a consideration here.

Thanks again tyty333!

Those are some fantastic looking pendants. And you are right - a haloed pear hanging from a bezel diamond looks incredible. Kind of antique but modern at the same time.

One of my problems with Halo B (my original post) is how the melee seems set away from the centre stone. I think I much prefer them to closely hug the perimeter, in order to give the appearance of a much larger stone (from a distance at least).

I'll ask GOG if they can offer more setting options.

May not be perfect but we're not talking engagement ring here and I think the overall effect will be very pretty!
It's a lot of stone for the money. What color of melee are they going to use? Are you ok with the J stone with
whiter melee? Even if they melee is lower colored they still tend to look whiter due to their cut and smaller size.
I hope you can at least go as low as G/H melee or maybe I/J if possible? Might want to ask.

I think a little difference is ok but I wouldnt want a big difference.

Thanks again tyty333 :)

"It's a lot of stone for the money." Yes!

Thanks too for the advice about melee color - I'll make sure to ask about getting I/J, or at most G/H stones to avoid a stark difference in warmth. The center can (just maybe) pass as 1ct or more and faces up relatively white (at least in the video), so I wouldn't want to ruin the overall effect!
