Help choosing a Diamond

Hi all!

I am definitely a newbie when it comes to diamonds so I am starting to question if I am overlooking something when trying to find a nice stone!

I am from the UK and have been looking at bluenile because they look to be very competitively priced and I also don't have to deal with the faff of paying tax separately (if I went through someone like James Allen). Let me know if I am wrong though!

My budget for just the stone is around the 10K GBP mark (inc tax). I am looking for a round diamond which will eventually be set in a 4 prong platinum solitaire ring. The criteria I have been using to search is:

Cut: Ideal
Colour: H
Clarity: VS2 - VVS1
Depth: 60 - 62.5
Table: 54 - 57
Polish and Symmetry: Excellent

Its a lot of money to spend on something I know very little about and I think I am getting put off by the inclusions I can see on the heavily magnified diamond images online! This is guiding me to choosing something with a clarity of VVS1, this is probably not needed! My search criteria is quite specific also, not sure if it needs to be?

Can I do better than the diamond below from Blue Nile do you think? It would be great to go bigger of course.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking for similar in the same range. Good luck searching!

Regarding inclusions see if you can visit 77diamonds in London to check out some stones in real life. I found I was totally ok with all the VS1's I saw (couldn't see anything) but totally not OK with crystals on the table of VS2's. People will tell you that you can't see them but I could quite easily so it's worth just confirming in real life.

Thanks for this. I agree, I really need to see some in front of me to put my mind at rest
