Hello,

I am looking for a 1.15-1.25 carat eye clean diamond for a platinum solitaire engagement ring. I'm debating between the following diamonds. Can you please give me your opinions on the quality of these diamonds or recommend more suitable diamonds? I picked J color diamonds because I read that they are a good value and appear white in a solitaire setting. I'd like to stay under $5500 for a diamond. I also would like to stick to GIA certified diamonds. These diamonds have tables between 56-57% and depths ranging from 61.8-62.8%. I am leaning towards the first diamond listed below.

My priority: cut, clarity, carat, color.

Thank you for your help!

The 1.17 is the best of the bunch however I'd much rather go down a bit in clarity and go up to an I color. I is usually where people start to see tint and if you're putting the stone in a wg or platinum solitaire, the tint will be noticeable from the side.
The 1.16 is nice but slightly too deep and we'd really want to see an ideal scope for the high crown angle. The BN stone is way too deep - we generally cap it at 62.3 and some prefer no more than 62. The 1.20 stone at JA doesn't have complimentary angles so I would pass on that one.

I'll see what I could find...ETA, these are also nice (you could get $100 off with a referral code and ask for a PS discount). I would ask JA to provide you with ideal scopes for your top 3 picks ...they will provide them if the stones are in house or if the vendor supplies them:

Thank you for your reply.

I looked for Is and saw these two. What do you think? I'm willing to go down to a 1-1.15 carat if it gets me a better performing diamond. Also, I'm perfectly happy going down in clarity, but it's difficult for me to tell what would be an eye clean diamond.

Yes, I linked the 1.13 I VS2 above - it's a nice stone but I would definitely ask to get an ideal scope bc it has a high crown angle. Here's another but slightly over budget: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-2669007

The 1.17 I VS2 you selected is also not well cut...these are the parameters to use and you need to keep in mind that the angles need to compliment each other:
table: 54-58
depth: 60-62.3
crown angle: 34-35.0 (sometimes 35.5 or 36 if the pavilion angle is 40.6)
pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0 if the crown angle is close to 34)

Thank you so much for your help. You have been fantastic. I requested the ideal scope and will post that when I receive it in a couple days.

Your tip about the pricescope discount is much appreciated and definitely changes the budget aspect by bumping it up to $5750 list price. I will take a look at more diamonds based on your recommendations.

If anyone else has any recommendations, I'm willing to look at diamonds on JA listed up to $5750 and 1-1.25 carat, SI1 or above (eye clean) that is cut well.

JA does not have the idealscope for the 1.13 I VS2, but they gave me the idealscope for the 1.12 I SI1 you recommended. The link to the 1.12 and the ideal scope image are below. There is a $500 difference between the two diamonds, so I'm trying to figure out if the 1.12 is worth the extra $500. Any opinions on that?
