HELP! Chipped Diamond

Dear PriceScopers,
Last year a bought a beautiful full eternity band with 25 pointer diamonds from a trusted PS vendor.
Fast forward to yesterday, and I was cleaning and checking my ring with loupe (as I periodically do) and noticed a very small nick in one of the diamonds. I say nick, because it is probably about half of a millimetre in length, if that. It is on the angle of the table and the star facet. I can sometimes see it under 20 magnification, if I can get the angle just right, sometimes it looks like a small crystal under the table, but it does reach the surface.
I know that this can happen with full eternities and I was aware of the risk when buying it, but I’m so worried that I have damaged my ring. Do you think that it is still safe to wear? Shall I send it back?
I am an international PriceScoper and am currently waiting for USA business hrs so I can call the vendor to see what they say. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the clarity of the stones? Are you sure the diamond wasn't this way when you got it? I strongly recommend using no more than a 10x loupe. People drive themselves crazy with imperfections when they start using higher powered loupes! I cannot imagine it being unsafe to wear, and unless you want to go to the trouble of having the stone replaced, I would just leave it alone especially since it sounds like it can't even be seen easily with a 20x loupe.

First, I'd have a local jeweler inspect the ring to determine how badly damaged the stone is and if the stone is still secure in there or not. Then they can advise you whether to repair, rotate the stone and leave-as-is, or replace the stone entirely.

If the stone is damaged, it's damaged. Your options are either live with it or have it repaired or replaced. If you have no insurance, then the repair will be at your discretion and expense. Sometimes a small chip can be polished, but I'm not sure that's cost-effective on smaller stones, if you have to mail it someplace to get that done.

If you have insurance, you will have to work with your insurance company per the terms of your policy. But the insurance should cover repolish or replacement of the stone.

I'd never claim something that small on insurance. Save that for when a whole ring is lost or stolen or a large diamond is damaged. You want to avoid making claims because rates may go up or they may later drop you if you make multiple claims.

DiamondSeeker Thanks for your sensible response!I've been trying not to over worry about it since the nick is so very small.
The diamonds were sold to me as SI clarity, and independently verified as VS2-SI clarity stones. I am not 100% sure if the nick was there when I received the ring, but it did not come up in the written appraisal which I got for insurance purposes from my UK jeweller.

TC1987 Thanks for your reply. The stone is secure in its setting, but for my sanity I will follow your advice and have my local jeweller look at it. I have called my USA jeweller, and they have asked that I send by ring back to them so it can be checked. As the stone is not loose and the chip small the jeweller has kindly said that the stone can be swapped with minimal cost.

I just want to say thanks again for this comunity, I would not be able to have such a stunning ring without it and everyone's advice is always so helpful. I'm just sorry that my photography skills are so bad that I can't really share the pieces I have bought since joining up.
