Hi all,

I am looking to buy a pair of canadian diamonds for my wife to use in earings (gift from our newborn to her). I am looking through the blue nile website and found several diamonds close in measurements. How reputable are they for VS or VVS diamonds that are ~0.40Ct E-F colour round cut?

Being in Canada, are there any other similar retailers too?

Thanks

You can read these recent threads. A few of us in Toronto have recently made diamond online purchases. I personally went with a Canadian diamond from ID Jewelry who has access to Bluenile's virtual inventory. There are pros and cons to going with Bluenile and you can read threads to see what we were discussing.

Good luck.

I think you should definitely get ones the match well in terms of their specs. Not sure if you really need to go all the way up to D or VVS1, especially for smaller diamonds, but if it's in your budget then why not. The thing you need to do now is plug in the specs to the HCA calculator below and ensure the pairs you are considering score lower than 2.

smoothmoose,

I have reviewed the specs, and most came in between 1.2-1.6. Looking at the clarity characteristics, some are indicated with cloud, feather or pin point. Are any a warning flag that I should steer clear from? Or given the size of the diamond, and that they will be mounted in earings, it would be inconsequential?

VS2 and better your diamonds are eye clean, unless you have super eyes. I'm not the expert, but clouds, feather, pinpoints are very common inclusions (just from my experience looking at many reports while shopping for a diamond). With VVS it takes a trained eye to see inclusions even at 10x magnification.
