My good guy friend is uber busy at work, but wants to propose to his honey (who is a lovely gal) ASAP. Knowing that I ‘Pricescope’ quite regularly, he’s asked ‘us’ to help him seal the deal!

Now for our Challenge! We are in Canada, so ideally want to purchase the rock and the setting from the same vendor (to deal with shipping / insurance situation).

Here is the budget and specs:
Stone
˚ Approx $4600 USD to spend
˚ Round Brilliant
˚ Best cut ‘we’ can afford
˚ SI - Eye clean
˚ G or H colour
˚ As close to 1 carat (as the budget allows)
Setting
˚ White gold
˚ Solitaire
˚ As ‘classic’ as possible – think Tiffany’s setting

Soooooo – what can ‘we’ find?!

How much fun spending someone else’s money ;)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

YEY! Thanks Chrono and Skippy!

Great stones - especially that H&A (I''d love to recieve that!!)

So I was thinking WF as well - great reputation and tons of beautiful work done for so many PS''ers.

Now: the issue of the setting. I *personally* don''t love that profile. It''s just me....as I prefer a 4 prong....but also, that cathedral (heavyness) on the (knife-like) prongs turn me off.

What ELSE?! I''ll be hunting too...

the 4 prong has that "look" too on the prongs. sigh. No likey. :)

$4545 JA with .9 G SI 1, based on Pricescope discount.

Best of luck!

HEE! This is so fun!
Thanks for all this help ;)

I''ve passed these on to ''the man'' - so let''s see what he says.

My advice to him is: Get the best stone you can, get the $180 WG 4 prong setting, and she can always upgrade the setting later if she wants ;)

I LOVE that H&A one. I think he should blow the budget on the rock. haha.

what else what else - I''m so happy for him (and them!!)

Aren''t the Expert Selections hearts and arrows too? Just curious.

H&A ish, usually.

The ES collection is good enough to pass as H&A to most of us here at PS and definitely to the casual wearer.

hmm. interesting. In that case, maybe ''we'' should see what''s in stock ??!

Generally...unless the unusual happens, these are in stock. I'd lean towards Chrono's first option, though it's incorrectly reported as a G...it's an H. (Also, I'm betting it got loaded into the sbc db in the last hour). Not sure why expert selections are a topic here, but maybe some are? This one's an ACA.

I agree I like Chrono's first one best.

...still waiting for his reply (in meetings).

I too recommended the first H&A stone (Chrono''s).

It''s crazy to think...he could purchase this stone, have it set and shipped - and be ENGAGED by NEXT weekend! I love the power of the internet. WOW.

2 lives will forever be changed. Ahhh. sigh.

I''d also go for the first stone Chrono suggested.

I''d go for this setting:

When I talked to Lesley at WF a while back about settings, she said this is her most popular solitaire setting. It''s a beauty with the legato head, and affordable at $595 for 14k gold or $695 for 18k white gold.
Ditto.

Double ditto! I love the Legato head on that setting. So classy and feminine!

Me too. I think in this case, the extra couple of hundred dollars on the $595 WG setting relative to the plain ones in the $200 range is worth it. The lines and overall look of this setting are lovely and it looks more like a real setting rather than a holder of a diamond...if that makes any sense. Everyone has suggested some great stones here!
