Hello everyone.

So I''m trying to decide between two diamond bands.

Band 1: Tiffany Etoile, 4mm wide, .23 ctw, F-G colour, VVS-VS clarity, platinum, $2300 + tax (Canadian)

Band 2: Bluenile starlight band, 4 mm, .20 ctw, H colour, SI2 clarity, platinum, $1375 + tax (Canadian)

First off, has anyone every ordered from Bluenile? Are they reputable? Second, I know that Tiffany''s is about $1000 more and that I am mostly just paying for the name, but would you notice a difference between F-G vs. H and likewise, VVS vs. SI2? The diamonds are so small, I''m not sure you would really notice a difference. The band will be worn next to a plain platinum band, so there is no other diamond to compete with.

The bands are pretty much identical (4 mm, platinum, 10 small bezel set diamonds) except for the colour and grade.

Help!

Just want to know opinions because there is quite a price difference!

Personally, I would be a tad scared of Si2's from Bluenile. I don't know that there wouldn't be black inclusions and I would also worry about the CUT of all the stones.

I would do a third option. Check out the Facets Collection bands from signed pieces. Prices are great, all stones are ideal cut, and the clarities are very good too. I bet they could make something just like that for you. For that matter I bet Whiteflash could too...

That''s what I was nervous about. I also know that my husband is wary of ordering something this special off the internet. We have a Tiffany''s close to us (in Toronto) and I have tried on the Etoile and I absolutely love it! It''s just a little pricey, considering the diamonds are so teeny. I love the heavy feel of the band itself though, which is why I am reluctant to have it made because I''m afraid it wouldn''t have the same feel and look to it. Are all platinum bands a little heavier than white gold?

OR possibly even better option. There is a place in NY called Signed Pieces (actually the same place that sells the Facets collection I mentioned above). They happen to have a size 5.5 Tiffany Etoile ring in stock right now. They sell slightly used Tiffany''s pieces and are VERY reputable. Many PSers have used them with great luck.

I just was looking at that same page! Unfortunately I haven''t been a 5.5 since I had my daughter and now I am a 6.5. I actually like my rings a little loose too, so I''m looking for a size 7. Thanks anyways though, now that I know about that site, I''ll be sure to keep an eye out!

You might want to call them. They get new stock very regularly and if you aren''t in a major hurry they will call you if/when they get one in stock.

I would personally call them and ask if they can make it for you. Or call WF and ask the same Q. I bet both companies would do an excellent job at a good price.

Here''s to hoping you''ll get a less biased opinion about Blue Nile and Tiffany.

Not biased about Tiffany at all. BN, yes a bit because I''ve seen some of their stuff in person and the quality did not impress me. Just trying to give her options and opinions like she was looking for.

Hey. I am myself looking for a diamond and I have been working mostly with blue nile, and mostly because they get a bunch of odd ball well cut diamond sizes that really cry out to be taken. I currently have an H color .62 that i am looking at sending back and the H color is not noticable at all from the top, and just slightly from the side. I would say in a .2 if it is well cut AT ALL then there is not event he slightest chance you are going to see it.

Also, I have called blue nile more times than you can imagine (I asked them and they pulled up my records and told me there is actually only one person on the staff I haven't talked with yet...lol) and they are always very kind and ready to answer questions, though some know a bit more than others of course. They will readily hold diamonds for you and if you ask for someone to inspect a diamond for a particular trait they will not hesitate to do exactly what you ask, as long as it is via visual inspection. If you are worried about black inclusions, or eye cleanliness, tell them how you define eye cleanliness and they will get it done for you. I failed to define myself well enough last time unfortunately, but that was my own fault. They are lacking in alot of areas though, so def. look around, but don't brush past them, call them and talk to them.
