Hi-

I've been over-analyzing diamonds for months and months, Pricescope has been a blessing and a curse  I think I've finally reached the point where I need to just commit to a diamond.

Currently, I'm considering an I/VS2 1.75 carat diamond from Brian Gavin's Blue line with medium blue fluorescence. I know that their Blue line isn't held to the same standards that their normal signature line is, according to their website's information, so I'd really love some additional expert opinions on this stone. It has an HCA of 1.8, AGS000, and the numbers seem fairly good to me - but I don't have nearly enough experience to say for sure. I've also been looking extensively at WhiteFlash ACA/Expert lines for a bit less money, plus JamesAllen and BN - this BGD stone would be a couple grand more than I would likely spend elsewhere, so I really would love to know if it's worth the splurge. I like the spread of this BGD stone for its weight, the blue flourescence to hopefully make the I color a teensy bit whiter, etc.

I'd love to hear your thoughts - both good and bad!

The pricing (after PS discount) is pretty consistent with other I VS2's out there of the "higher end" PS vendors like WF, GOG, HPD, VC, etc. You could probably find something cheaper by going down to an eye-clean SI1, or going with a lower cost vendor such as JA and BN. For what it's worth having owned a BG Blue for a brief period of time, it was a sparkler and slightly outperformed (to my eyes in varying lighting situations, but it could be a placebo effect =P) the low HCA GIA rated diamonds I had from JA that even had great idealscopes. I honestly don't think they cut the "Blue" line to "lower" standards than signature and that it's more marketing, because it's the same diamond cutters - it doesn't make sense to cut one diamond intentionally crappier than the other. It would be interesting to know at what point the polisher/vendor knows that the resulting cut diamond has fluorescence and to what degree - they probably test it before sending it to the lab, but given that that's an uncertainty, I'd assume they cut all their rough to the same standard and attach the "Blue" or "Signature" branding at the end depending on if the stone was graded with fluoro or not.

Long story short - I think it will be fantastically performing stone and worth it if you decide to go for it. Here's another nice option if you'd like to slightly decrease carat size to bring it in budget:

I don't know, but I suspect, that if the BGD Blue line is cut to any lower spec, it just means that it has parameters such as table size or crown angle or depth something else that would fall outside the normal range for either a Brian Gavin Signature or I would presume a Whitflash ACA, since Brian Gavin developed the ACA standards while he was with Whiteflash. Or possibly the symmetry is still graded excellent but the hearts & arrows pattern has some minor issues that make it an imperfect hearts & arrows but it still has excellent light performance. The diamond you are looking at is closer to a 60/60 with the 57.9% table and 61% depth. It's a bit more spready than some others of that carat weight, and many people will presume that it's a 2ct when it's set.

I see that crystal in the center on the ASET and H&A images. Perhaps someone with good near vision will see it without a loupe. But it's small. I have a larger dark crystal in my SI2 in nearly the same place, and it hides well most of the time.

I think it's a gorgeous diamond! I've been stalking it for about a week :Up_to_something: I don't have funds right now to buy it or it would be mine :))

I have a BGD I VS2 Very Strong Blue for my pendant stone and it is amazing! I also have BGD Signature H SI1 Studs with no fluorescence. The studs are .50ct each, and the pendant is .55ct.

I don't notice a performance difference at all between the two types. They're both stunning and there is zero color difference to my eyes. After buying the pendant stone I've decided that every future diamond I purchase will be a blue. The effect under black light is super cool too!

Here's another vote for BGB. I have a 2.0 ct I VS2. I love it!

Pulled the trigger on it... It should be here shortly and if it looks good in person, then it will be off to Mark Morrell =)

Thanks everyone!
