Hey,
Im close to purchasing a diamond for an engagement ring.

The frist diamond is a 1.20ct H SI1 EX EX EX with no florencences 60% depth and 60 % table with a medium to slightly thick, faceted (4.0) girdle. Its dimentions are 6.83-6.88x4.11mm. It has a 32.5 %crown angle 41.0% pavilion angle. I think that this stone was a used stone since it had a GIA report from 2005.

The second stone is 1.21 VS2 EX EX VG with no florecence 59.6% depth and 59% table with a thin to medium faceted (2.5%). Its measurements are 6.95 - 7.02x4.16mm. Its crown angle is 32.5% and its pavilion angle is 41.2%

They about 7k including setting. Please if anyone knows about diamonds id appreciate any advise.

Hi Alex

Are these for sale online or from a jewellery store?

The first diamond - 60- 60 type ( 60% depth, 60% table), the angle range is ok and could be a nice diamond but its hard to tell without images such as Idealscope. I would suggest comparing it to some with a smaller table ( 54- 57% thereabouts) to see which you prefer. Make sure it is eyeclean to your standards also. It is possible the diamond is a trade in or it might just have taken a while to find a home, 2005 isn't terribly old in the overall scheme of things, ask the vendor.

The second diamond - is of similar type, again images are needed to see how efficiently the angles and other proportions work together.

Do you have the star and lower girdle facet percentages too for each please? If you have the GIA report numbers we can look that up online.

Oh they are both round stones and GIA certified.

They are from 2 different local jewerly stores.

Ok, what I would suggest if you are really interested in seeing how well these are cut, order an Idealscope and take it with you to check these diamonds out for light leakage. They are easy to use and to interpret the results.

Also ask if you can inspect the diamonds in plain daylight if the store will permit it to get an idea of how they will look away from any bright store lights. This lighting can be deceptive so a good yardstick is to view the diamonds in more ordinary lighting, the lighting the ring will often be viewed in when worn.

Sorry I do not have pictures.

here is the GIA report for the first

Thank you! It is very difficult to judge properly without images so bear that in mind that we are restricted, however from the info given I would be most interested in the second diamond, but without images it is difficult to say for sure with these proportion combos.

when you say second you mean the 1.20 SI1 as opposes to the 1.21 VS2

Yes, the 1.20 but again this is based on the limited info available.

Thanks.
