I'm working with David and Marie over at GOG who have been so amazing and patient.

I am driving myself nuts trying to decide between these two. DiamondSeeker2006 is helping me and she is amazing as always. I'd like everyone's opinions!

I like my diamonds near colorless... I thought I would be most comfortable with the colorless from the bunch of mostly I-J in my price range... the faceting on the D is really lovely.

The 1.81 is a low "I" from what I've been told and could tell in videos. It has a larger table for an old cut however smaller than the avg RB table, which I don't mind at all. The faceting on the 1.81 is what gravitates me to it... it's mesmerizing! The spread is quite nice for a 1.81, looks more like a 2ct. And it's about $4k less than the 1.63D.

Written opinions welcome!

I can tell the size more than color. Plus, you can see the facets better on the 1.8

I've already given you a long answer or two on the other thread, but I voted for the 1.81 (assuming you can look at it to check the color) because these stones are even more beautiful the larger they are! On the other hand, I know you said you might upgrade in a couple of years, so in that respect, you can always make a change later. Both are outstanding and beautiful. So if your color tolerance means you need higher than the 1.81, then you can go with the D, but if the color of the 1.81 is acceptable, then you get the benefit of the larger stone!

I am very excited for you and thrilled that you have chosen an AVR! :appl:

TOTALLY THE 1.81!!!! That is one stunning stone and you absolutely cannot tell the color difference from the top! and a 4k savings??? Seems like a no-brainer to me...

Hello Ely. Might I suggest you have Good Old Gold send them both to you so that you can wear and compare them. I have found that each AVR has its own personality. I had a J color AVR that looked much whiter than the I color I ended up purchasing and now I have upgraded in size to a L color. Each AVR has it's own personality. I wired the money for one and charged the other on my credit card. GOG is EXCELLENT about shipping these and giving good instructions for you to ship back and they were VERY prompt in returning my money.

Yes it will cost you maybe $80 total but this is a big decision and I think it will be worth it for you. BTW: I LOVE LOVE LOVE AVR's!! :lickout: Good luck...no matter which one you pick I promise you will love it too!

My vote is the 1.81 and its for the same reasons mentioned above - you can notice size before you notice colour, and the larger the stone, the more notable are the facets... and on an AVR, to me, its all about the faceting!!

Good idea to see both in person, if that could be an option. It really helped DS to decide!

+1 for the 1.81

1.81 - lower price + bigger diamond is what I would choose hands down.

Size does matter :naughty:

Trasid, I also told her I sent for all the stones I considered buying (one or two at a time) and recommended she do the same. I really think she can just send for the 1.81 because if she doesn't like the color, then the D is the obvious choice. If she can handle the I color, then I think she'd be better off with the larger stone that costs less! I think these two stones are pretty similar in cut, so size and color are really the things she has to decide about. Shipping will probably cost her more, too, since both these stones are over $20k.

i like both. for me i would choose 1.81I for the following reasons

I am colour sensitive and would like a higher colour, but with these older style cuts, it is really hard to tell the difference in colour from the top. From the sides I can tell the colour difference. but in reality, you may not have a higher colour to compare the I side by side. and the colour can be disguised in the setting. What DS is suggesting is a great idea. order the 1.81I to assess the colour. Is that colour going to bother you or not. Once in your hand you can then make the decision of the D or I.

With AVR (and older cuts), the pastel colours are another feature that i like.

the finger coverage that you will get from the 1.81 will be amazing, unless you are concerned about its presence on your finger :cheeky: !!!!

the 1.81 does show off the facet pattern more. And that is another beauty of the AVR.

it is also cheaper!!

Thanks for your inputs everyone!

That is so true, excellent points, Niel! Thank you! When I glance at someone's ring I do notice the size first for sure. And heck yeah, why am I getting an AVR? It's for the chunky facets, especially the 1.81, I'd be foolish not to go for this one, right? Now the color issue... I am pretty sensitive here, so I will have to see in person the 1.81.

Thank you, DS! You have no idea how you've opened up my brain in regards to the diamond choosing dilemma(s). As mentioned before, I will take your advice and view the 1.81 first and go from there, excellent advice all around. Keep on the awesome.

Thanks, 04diamond! You're right, where is my brain?! Lol. ;) Now, I just need to decide if the 1.81 has too much color.

Hi, Trasid. I'm afraid viewing two stones is not an option for me, but I wish! I will view the 1.81 and go from there, as DS suggested. Amazing that the J you viewed looked whiter than an I! Congrats on your upgrade!!! GOG's trade-up policy is pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. :)

For me too, I am learning that I like certain faceting on the AVR. The chunkier and less variation from center to outside the center the prettier, to me. Thanks a lot, Enerchi.

Thanks for sharing your thought process with me. :)) I agree I will need to see the 1.81 and take it from there. A small part of me thinks that it may be too large... I know, I know. Oh yes, the facet pattern has got me totally gaga. I eagerly await to see it in person. Counting down the days!!! (late July :()
