Hi Everyone, I am looking to purchase a vintage ring but am concerned that the prongs are a little flimsy from the pictures. The ring is 14kyg with a platinum head. The band measures 2mm and each prong is about 1.5mm. The ring currently holds a 1.25ct cz, but my stone is 1.74ct (not ideal/ideal/ideal and measures about 7.5mm approx). The seller told me that the opening on the head measures about 8mm and the head from bottom to tip of prong measures 8mm. Do you think the prongs are sturdy enough? Will my stone fit?

Also, the ring is currently a size 8 but I need to get it down to a size 5 (

!! yes I know) - can this be done?? I know there is lots of work to be done, but I really appreciate the vintage look of this setting!

Any thoughts are greatly appreicated, thanks in advance!

that is a disaster waiting to happen...
way to many changes to a rather flimsy setting.

Thanks Karl... sigh... I had a feeling this would be the case, and thought I get some opinions to solidify my reasoning to let it pass.

Can the prongs be retipped?

Yeah...I''d keep the pictures and get something custom made to fit your finger AND your stone.

it would need a total rebuild and the odds of disaster are very high.

Agree with Karl and NF - its pretty, but not too uncommon - I would have it reproduced to fit your needs.

I''ve seen similar settings from an eBay seller blufoxxcreations. His mounts are made from original molds from the early 20th century. You might want to check out his stock. He may have something very similar to this that could be made to fit your stone. Good luck
