Hello,

My brilliant cut round diamond is top notch (AGS cert, triple zero rated cut, table/depth ideal, no flourescence, VVS2, H color, etc) so that''s not the issue....platinum tiffany setting.....

I had dinner in a restaurant with many spot lights and in this light the diamond turns PITCH BLACK in color, still sparkles like it should but the diamond turns black. In all other lighting, no issues but just in spot lighting? Anyone know what it the issue is, if any????

Please help!

Thanks!

Thanks...just want to make sure...so there is nothing wrong with how it was set (low) or the band (possibly dirty)?

Thanks!!!

not likely.
Cant say it couldn''t use a cleaning(no way of knowing) but its not what is causing it.

I am by far an expert, but I have seen this "phenomenon" happened. Well cut diamonds tend to do this. If you want to check it out, pass by a tiffany''s. Most diamonds there, when viewed in the store''s lighting tend to appear very dark. I think it''s pretty awesome, by the way.
It seems that you have an amazing stone. Congrats.

I meant to say... "I''m not an expert" ( yea, I need my morning coffee)

Yes, this is normal, many have queried this in the past, and it seems to be something noticed at times by those with well cut diamonds.

Yes it is normal. Mine does it too and is very black in sunlight. That is actually how I found Pricescope - trying to find out why. I am sure your diamond is gorgeous.

I have posted about this before, but we went to a piano bar a couple times that had a black ceiling with literally hundreds of teeny white spot lights in it. My diamond also went pitch black, but the sparkle was totally different. It was like many, many tiny little rainbows that literally shimmered on the ring. I laughed out loud the first time I noticed it, truly awesome to see. The waitresses were even commenting on it, as well as the people with us. I highly recommend seeking out such lighting situations.

Sadly, this placed closed down.

I am no expert but I think that it has to do with contrast in the stone and lower girdle facets length. It is by no way a defect, on the contrary. Some very detailed explanations are given on www.goodoldgold.com with the checker board comparison. I was not able to find the precise link now but you can browse or ask Rhino on pricescope (alias Johnatan at Goodoldgold).

I have noticed, the same thing with my AGS000. It appears very dark in spotlighting environments (i.e. elevator at work), but gives of tons of fire (a bunch of rainbows)

. I like to spend time in the elevator, not doing work

. It also gets dark in direct sunlight.
