Hello everyone!

My girlfriend and I have been looking at at engagement rings for a little while now. We stopped at Jared's today just to look around and see what they had. We were shown a diamond that was:

1.22c
F
VS2
good/good
$6400

She loved the diamond and while they were cleaning one of her rings for her I had them put it on hold for me. I have the ability to have all of my money refunded but I wanted to look around first. What do you think? Is this a good deal?

In general, you can get a much better deal elsewhere. Jared doesn''t have the best prices or the best quality.

Get some measurements and see if it faces up as a 1.22. Some of their diamonds are quite steep.

Can you post information from the cert about its angles?

You can get a better deal elsewhere I am willing to bet, but without knowing the cut quality of the diamond you chose it is impossible to say for sure.

I will post them later this week. She was in the store with me and I had to be quick and sneaky about putting the diamond on hold so I was not able to write everything down as I would have liked.

Hi sims and welcome!

Ditto April and Dreamer, if you could post all the proportions from the grading report that would help us to evaluate the cut or alternatively, if you could get the grading report number we can look it up that way.

ok here are the complete specs. I had the originals wrong. But here are the correct ones with measurements.

Princess cut
1.22ct
F color
SI2
good/good
6.17 x 6.05 x 4.13
IGI cert.
Again the price is $6400

Do you think this is a good deal? I am meeting with a family friend that is a broker this Friday so I may have many more options open to me as I am not locked in to this diamond yet. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot it was a princess cut.

Wow, I checked out that James Allen site...Tons of good stuff at great prices!

Has anyone dealt with them before?

Just do a search for JA in pricescope and you will see. I did not buy from them but there are lot''s of happy customers from them.

SC - it''s a princess, spread seems high</?

sims - I would find an AGS graded princess. AGS is the only reliable lab that gives princesses cut grades. To answer your question - no, it doesn''t look like a good deal, JA has two IGI graded ~1.2ct F SI2s for under 5k.

Whoops, mess up. :P

Ditto, yssie

BIG FAT DITTO!!

james Allen has a stellar reputation on Pricescope, you can but from them without any worries.

Thanks guys!

Why would you say to not go with the family friend that is a broker? I have a meeting with her this Friday. I will keep your concerns in mind and will report back about my experience. Immediately after that I will cancel the hold on that diamond at Jared!

I have not had much luck finding an AGS grading (very easy to find GIA) on princess cuts but I did find this and it looks great to me. What are your thoughts?

OP, the reason people are telling you NEVER do business with diamonds with friends or friends of friends because it is just a big huge mistake. I don''t care if she says she can get you "The best deal around." It is just not the way it is, especially with diamonds. You WILL be paying more for less quality doing it that way.

Got to one of the recommended Pricescope vendors as others are telling you......unless you like to waste money.

Definite no on the Jared''s diamond......

Lots of experiences here of "family friend" ripping off the buyer. BEWARE!

I just think that too often a "wholesaler" who sells to the public is not motivated to provide great customer service to the individual. It is not their bread and butter, and very often we hear stories of people on PS who have an issue after buying and get nothing but trouble from the vendor. I also think you should not mix friendship with business as a general practice.

Brutal honestly.....

I love it. This is the most helpful forum I have ever been on. Thank you all for taking the time to help me out! Well I have already made an appointment so I will keep it as to not be rude. I will not make any deals though. I am really liking the James Allen site.

Of the three you posted there from JA why is it that the last one seems to be the most clear in the pictures but the other two have a white tint to them? Is it b/c of the better symmetry on the third? Are there any that look good to you guys in an F color? I know G and F are very similar but she really wanted an F diamond....whatever she wants right?
