Hi, I am checking on a diamond. On the retailer website, it is listed as a AGS tripple 0. And there is a cert that shows it. But on AGS verification website, the grading is different. Is there a possible explanation for this?

The AGS cert I saw on merchant website shows (attached is a copy of the cert)

Cut grade: Idea 0
Light Performance: 0
Proportion Factors: 0
Finish: 0
Polish: Idea
Symmetry: Idea

BUT on AGS verification website it shows:

Cut grade: Excellent (1)
Light Performance: 0
Proportion Factors: 1
Finish: 0
Polish: Idea
Symmetry: Idea

I suspect there might have been a typo at the lab?

But the report seems to be wrong if the crown is 35.3 and the pavilion is 41 degrees - then it is not likely to rate as AGS000

Call the lab and ask them.

I agree with Garry that it's probably a simple error but they should address it whether or not you decide to buy this particular stone. If it's a 0 they should fix entry the website, if it's not they owe an apology and a new report to the owner. Does the other data on the website match with what's printed on the report?

If its no trouble say, please report back as I would be interested to hear the actual results.

Neil:

The rock was actually listed on 2-3 online retailer sites. I guess everyone get the same rock from the same wholesaler? Anyway, yes, they all listed the rock as "Ideal" cut. If the AGS report is available on the website, the AGS # is the same. The dimension, table, depth all matched up.

Rhino:

I have sent AGS an email regarding this differences in grading, but have not heard from them yet.

Right now, I do not think I will buy this diamond.... Garry H is right, putting the numbers into the HCA, the result is not what a 000 should be.

Thanks.

I had occasion to speak with the lab today and brought this up. I was told that during the time frame this diamond was at the lab there was a database glitch caused by switching between 2 to 3 decimal places in calculations used to assess weight ratio. As a result some borderline stones had discrepancies; they believe most have been corrected. They say the original document stands and the error should be fixed on the AGS site now. Good catch, say. Thanks to AGSL for the prompt attention.

Thank you John.

Buying diamond is more fun than I thought.. :)

I'll say. Four posts and you've already helped a major trade organization make a correction. You're a mover and a shaker. More! More! :)

Good day, Say.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It was a technical issue that has now been corrected. The correct grading for that stone is Ideal and this is correctly reflected on our Report Verification on the website.

If you have any more problems or need assistance with anything, please do not hesitate to contact us.
