A few months ago DH and I upgraded my engagement ring and purchased a diamond and setting from a reputable local jeweler. They set the stone, the setting looks great and off we went. The SA said that he would mail me the original GIA report so that I could obtain insurance on the ring. I have not received the report yet.
Long story short - I''ve been laid up with a leg injury for about 12 weeks now so I just managed to make it back to the store this past weekend. The woman I spoke to said she''d have it in the mail for me. This was not the SA that we worked with.
Well, I got some papers from them today - an "appraisal" by the owner of the store, but no GIA report. When we purchased the (loose) diamond I was given the report number and have looked it up on the GIA website - so I know that one exists.
Also, the appraisal done by the store does not match the GIA report. The carat weight is off by 5 points, and the girdle measurement is a bit more general. The cut is also listed as "very good" on the owner''s report and "excellent" on the GIA report.
What should I do? Is it normal to not receive the original report and I''m overreacting? Can I request the report directly from the GIA?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
