Hi, Im another noob around here that is terrible in love and ready to take the big step ...
love.gif

Started searching for a wedding band and have been learning a little bit about them.

Basically I'm looking for a wedding band. My girlfriend is not the type who would like a solitaire ...
In fact, she even emailed a picture of her "dream" ring ...
Now is my job to find it.

Here is a pic of it. Basically it's a white gold or platinum wedding band, with two rows of princes cut diamonds in a channel set. That's all I know.

One thing that I would like to learn is the difference between big name stores, like Tiffany & CO and other stores. (if I manage to afford one, should I go for a T&CO ???) If you guys could suggest me other names of stores like T&CO, also some other less expensive options and maybe even help me find a ring like that, I would be one more happy noob ...

Anyway, great job with the this forum.
Thanks,

Well the basic difference is the premium you are paying for the brand name. That's ok if your into telling your friends I got her ring at Tiffany's.

A realistic cost saving approach which will score you superior cut diamonds and save you money is to go with one of the vendors you see posting here on pricescope. Your ring pic never showed up, but I can tell you right now that you can get superior cut stones and a cutom setting cheaper than you can get a Tiffany ring or other name based premium ring design.

Post some more specs and styles your girlfriend is interested in. Smaller princess cut stones should not be too spendy and you can get a nice custom plat or gold setting for the price of a Tiffany's mount.....

Picture didn't come through - try again!

Sorry ... here is the pic.

I agree I wouldn`t need to spend money on a Tiffany's ring. Had even given up on the idea. But the thing is that all the others I seen in local stores look so cheap that made me think about the T&CO again ...

Any idea who would have a good quality product.
I've seen a lot of discussion on the diamond itself, but in this case, where I would need 14-18 small princess cut ones, does it still apply ? I mean, would thre really be a difference in the color, cut and clarity ?

That ring as pictured is a beautiful ring. You can find that design all over the mall but most of them will not be of that quality. Most of the chain mall stores have that ring with H-I or TLB color diamonds with SI clarity. Since you are not going to get her a solitaire, I would try to get her something that Tiffany would have but somewhere else. The diamonds need to be F color with VS clarity in high polished platinum. The diamonds need to be well cut a matching. Before you get started make sure of her size. Wider rings require a little larger size.
The jewelry industry is gearing up for Christmas so I would jump on this now.

ooo....if the diamonds I have are any good then I should sell around christmas. thanks for the inside info. I didn't even think of that. haha, I'm gonna burn in hell though for waiting to make the most profit.

Dimonbob,
I have tried both T&CO and Birks in Canada, but none of them carry the ring anymore ... any idea wher I could get it (even custom made) with a good quality ?

Sorry dimonbob, I've been out the net for some days ...
Will try to call you tomorrow.

Another related question: some store owner in a mall here was telling me that this kind of ring that I'm looking for is very delicate and not recommended for everyday use, as the diamonds can easely get loose and be lost ... also that it is usually very expensive to have it fixed. Does that make sense ? If so, it won't be a good option for a engagement ring ...

Invisible set diamonds will not take a lot of abuse and they are expensive to repair.
Invisible set diamonds have a groove in the side of the diamonds where the two rows meet. There is a wire down the middle of the groove. If that wire is bent or breaks it turns into a can of worms.
My recommendation would be to have that design with a very slim, but visible, line of platinum down the center, use very white, well cut princess diamonds. It will not look exactly the same but will still look good.
The three row invisible set ring is even more of a problem. I have seen more invisible set ring problems when I was in a B&M retail than any other design. But they are beautiful!!

I see ... so for a everyday use it would be a constant risk.
The difficult part will be to approach her about the subject, without ruining the surprise ...

Bob, I'll still contact you to get some more ideas on this.
Thanks,
