Hi all,
I have what might be a silly question. I've been looking at diamonds and diamond certificates about a year casually and reading here about a year off and on. Now I'm really trying to educate myself, but there's something "new" that I've been noticing and that I've never see before or at least never noticed before that has been cropping up on some certificates I look at. On a lot of GIA certificates now there is a new measurement next to the table measurement. Most of the time is is between 50 and 60%. For an example look at the certificate of this diamond: ETA: Fixed the links I think. These two certificates should illustrate what I'm trying to say

See how the table is 56% and just to the left of that is a small 50%. What is that? Is it a small cut on the diamond? Or is it something that's always been there for round cut diamonds and GIA is just now adding this measurement to their certs? I haven't come across it yet on AGS certificates. (see this one where in the diagram the table is just flat across http://www.agslab.com/pdf_sync_reports/104086691001-PGRH.PDF )

I've been looking at diamonds/certificates for years (was previously engaged) and now have started to look seriously again and educate myself more than I did the first time around and I don't ever recall seeing "extra" measurement before. Here it is again in a different ring https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-color-vvs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3245012
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Oh, I'm not seriously looking at any of these diamonds as options. Their certificates just illustrated what I am confused about and what I wanted clarity on. But when the time is right We'll be sure to ask for help finding a RB 2 carat! Thanks again. I hope that wasn't too confusing.

Here is a chart that shows what each measurement is referring to... hope this helps! :)

Ah, Thank you so much! Now that I know what it's called I can actually research it without typing in "extra measurement thingy" in my search engine! Thank you, again!

You're welcome! :)

Bette,
FYI : on the AGS report the star and lower girdles percentages are found inside the diamond diagram on the relevant facets.

Thanks so much for pointing that out to me, Texas Leaguer! I swear I thought I was going crazy.

Welcome to Pricescope. Inquisitive minds tend to blossom here.

You now know more than many jewelers about the numbers on the reports. Keep on learning, it will stand you well when you make your final selection. ;-)
