First let me say thank you for all of those who have asked and answered questions on this forum. This place is amazing and has helped immensely. I have been lurking for about two weeks now trying to research before I asked some repetitive questions and to arm myself with enough info to make my head spin. My GF might kill me either way, if I get the wrong ring or if I keep researching for hours a day instead of showering her with attention.

Anyways,
I am looking for a diamond and setting around .5 or bigger with the total budget under $3,500 (I know its not a lot, I already feel emasculated, but I am a lowly teacher :read: )

I believe I have found a diamond and was just hoping to get some second and third opinions on it to make sure my research and eyes have not missed something.

Its info is the following:

Carat 0.554
Color G
Clarity VS1
Cut Ideal
Depth % 61.6
Table % 55.0
Crown Angle 34.7
Star 54.0
Pavilion Angle 40.8
Crown % 15.4
Lower Girdle % 77.0
Measurements 5.28x5.29x3.25
Culet Pointed
Fluorescence Negligible
Girdle Thin to Medium Faceted

It is AGS 0 in all areas and gets a 1.4 on the HCA with excellent in every area, but Spread which is VG.

I have also attached its Idealscope which looks ok to me, I see bleeding on the sides which is ok, correct?

I have also attached its clarity plot because it says it has one needle, but I don't see it anywhere and am concerned about this.

Sorry for the wordy first post but I guess I am wondering these few things.

1. Are the measurements and dimensions ok?

2. Is the Idealscope ok or what am I not seeing?

3. As far as the clarity plot, is that ok or should I be worried about the needle and the fact I can't find it?

Thank you so much for all the help,
Kevin

Teachers are not lowly. They make a difference in the lives of children and there are few jobs as important in my book! (Of course, I am a teacher, too, so I am a little biased!

The stone you chose is perfect! G VS1 is my favorite color and clarity for myself! Are you just doing the plain 4 or 6 prong setting? I think you could still go up a little in size if you are going with a simple setting.

Others will tell you that you can safely go down a level in color and clarity to get more size if you want to.

It looks beautiful! Great choice.

This stone looks great, like Diamondseeker2006 said you may go down in color a bit. That would enable you to find a slightly bigger stone but what really matters is that you love the stone that you found and make your woman happy!

Congratulations ;)

I'm NOT a teacher and I agree that it's one of the most important (and difficult!) jobs out there! Thank you for all that you do for our kids! I think that stone is lovely! How are you planning to set it?

J/K about the lowly part. Not fishing for compliments. Since you all asked about the setting that was to be my next question.

My GF like the Whiteflash 4 prong Tiff. setting. We were going to get it in platinum. My only concern is that the prongs look rather large towards the shank. Is this true?

We both don't really care much for the 6 prong because it looks like it is eating the diamond and not showing it as much. We even went into Tiffany's to look and I was not impressed.

Just worried about the four prong looking too big.

Thanks for the quick responses

My original e-ring is in a 4 prong tiffany setting like that and it is just fine. It is a classic and will never go out of style! So if you want platinum, we are talking about $700 which leaves $2800 for the stone. I would at least go for one of the .60 stones because the little bit of extra size will make a difference!

I agree with previous posters on going up in size slightly. If you go down to an H or I and SI1 you can probably get close to .70. The stone you picked is beautiful, though if you decide to go with that. Your girlfriend is very lucky to have a dedicated guy with such a sense of humor!

Good luck!!

I would suggest that you choose a simple setting (a Tiff' like 4 prong could be nice) so you can put most of your budget in your stone and get the most bang for your buck. It will always be possible to "upgrade" your setting later :D

You are getting great advice but I want to say that your budget is not small at all, it is very generous.

brian gavin is having a 10% off sale this weekend for diamonds and engagement settings (if you pay by wire or check - 8% for cc).

This diamond:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.734-h-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104054379003
and

This setting:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/four-prong-solitaire-14k-white-gold-5342w14

together would be 4083 - 10% = 3674.7

175 over budget (sorry!) but basically 3/4 of a carat!

just another option...good luck!

I like this one! I would rather have a 1/4 carat size bigger. You will notice the size difference more than the color or clarity difference =)

Thank you for all the ideas. I have decided to go with the original diamond and 4 prong. Although I just ordered it and the company messed up my order so hopefully I can get it corrected on Monday. Thanks again for all your input

That was a great choice! Congratulations! :appl:

Congratulations, your ring is going to be great! Don't forget to post some pics when you get it :appl:

Many congrats :appl:

It willbe gorgeous. Congratulations.
