its an Round, G, SI1, 3 excellent, with a very small crystal (dark) inclusion dead center in the middle of the table...

honestly without magnification its VERY hard to see because of all the sparkling and reflecting going on. the inclusion, because its dark and in the middle of the stone (as opposed to near surface level) is hard to catch. also, at least in my opinion, because the inclusion is dark (as opposed to a clean white crystal), it ''hides'' better amidst the sparking and reflecting of the diamond.

BUT

i called the other jeweler Ive been working (to tell him I decided to buy from someone else), and he asked about the stone. i basically told him what i just described and he told me:

"you''ll barely see the dark inclusion now, but when the stone gets dirty, which is inevitable, it will be easier to spot that inclusion on the table. diamonds get dirty from lotion and natural oils so once that happens you''ll see the inclusion more easily. because its a dark inclusion it will easily block the light and therefore be easier to see"

so my question to you guys....
is there any truth to this? I know that other jeweler was trying to kill the sale but is there any truth to his slander? I actually thought itd be harder to see inclusions within a diamond if it was dirty (w/ lotion, oils, etc).

i told the jeweler (who Im about to purchase from) this story and they told me the truth is the opposite of what that bitter jeweler told me. I know theyre both trying to make the sale but im so confused and dont know who to believe

. Thanks in advance everyone!

also...

im starting to freakout bc i need to come to a decision soon on buying a stone (if i plan on popping the big question on the date i had in mind)

So have seen this stone or not? It is impossible to tell if a inclusion is visible or not just by it''s type and location. Also, it is a myth in the trade that an inclusion in the table is going to be visible. So, don''t suspect it, only make the judgment when you hold it in your hand.

yups, i saw this diamond firsthand...ill admit that after some staring and angling the diamond correctly I was able to see the inclusion (only after i was told where it was located).

so basically, right now I have a hard time seeing it...my concern is if the bitter jeweler was speaking truth. i wont get the diamond if it gets easier to see the inclusion (when it inevitable gets dirty).

You said it yourself. The inclusion hides in the sparkle, so it could become more visible once it becomes dirty, because dirty diamonds have less sparkle.

The solution--Keep the diamond clean. I clean mine daily.

BTW, you''ll want to clean it anyway, inclusion, or no inclusion, so I don''t think that should be a deal-killer for you.

...forgot to mention

i was able to see it (albeit barely and after some time staring and angling it so the sparkling and reflecting weren''t hiding it) without magnification

I would have to agree with flygirl...I was just commenting on another thread that when my diamond is dirty
it appears to absorb the light (instead of reflecting it). Seems like in that case an inclusion would be easier
to see because you dont have the distraction of all the flashs...so...like she said...keep it clean.
