Sometimes cut quality can bring a premium, sometimes it depends on the price when they purchased the diamond or the price they got from different suppliers, etc.

I think they use a lot of latitude when they label stones as ideal cut, though. Be sure the diameter is close to 7.4mm for a 1.5 ct. stone.

You know, I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct answer, but sometimes the DATE when the gems were graded by the GIA can make a difference, based on where the market is during that time. I've noticed a general trend that stones graded in August tend to be more expensive than stones graded earlier in the year. However, the other issue could be based on the proportions of the stones. I don't know if you're familiar with the HCA (Holloway Cut Advisor), but it's a useful tool on PriceScope that people sometimes like to use to help them find diamonds online that will "most likely" perform well. It's used more to help people rule out possible stones as oppose to ruling in stones. Generally, we like to see stones that perform with a value of 2.0 or below. I think the less expensive stones don't perform as well, but I hastily plugged it into the advisor, so your best bet would be to carefully do it (I've copied the link below)

There are loads of other great vendors out there besides BlueNile. One thing you should know about them is that they tend to "drop ship" their stones, which means they don't have any of them in house. If you use the diamond search function on the PriceScope homepage, you can enter your parameters and search specifically for stones that are "In House", which means the vendors are able to examine the stones for you on site, and can give you their personal recommendation, as well as tell you anything else you want (eye clean, fire, scinillation, etc). I've had really great experiences working with WhiteFlash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, and Good Old Gold.

Please post any more questions you might have!

Blue Nile carries A LOT of inventory and no diamonds are the same. As a percentage of the cost (14K-17K), 3K is not a lot of variability. And, yes, this 4 you list have very different cuts from one another. The crown height alone ranges from 12.5% to 16%.

I bought some loose stones from BN before and had to rely on numbers alone (after educating myself) since they don't have images of the diamonds available for customers. A little nerve wracking, but they turned out completely awesome (they were not the branded signature line). That said, they were smaller stones for studs. For a 1.5 ct stone, I'd kind of go with a vendor that could give you more info than just a GIA report. Images, access to a gemologist are good for a large purchase. BN has a great return policy but with your tight timeline, consider a vendor that will give you a heads up on the stone before building the ring.

Are you proposing at 11 AM or 11 PM?

Thanks everyone!! I really appreciate it!

I punched in the numbers and the third one gave a HCA reading of 1, as well as the Fourth.

Im def going to be using this tool to further analyze these diamonds!

As for 11 A M or 11 P M, didnt think about that! def something to consider. Most likely night!
