Hello ladies,

My name is Tara I''m new to these forums. My mom is giving me my grandmas old ring to use to make a wedding band. I want something Chanel set I think. This way at work (nursing) It wont interfere with my gloves. My E-ring is a 1/2 carat three stone one. Small but cute. I figure since we can upgrade that one, down the road I will. When I get this wedding band that is all I''ll probably wear. I will put my e-ring on my right hand when not at work because the e-ring diamonds will probably look funny with the band diamonds since they are bigger.

How big do you think these diamonds are, and do you have any pics of what a wedding ring would look like with these in it?

Thanks for your help, you all seem so smart.

here is the pic, it is the ring on the left. I am going to use the diamonds on the ring on the right with a 1 carat marquis with about 3/4 carats of little stones aroung it as a project ring down the road. Dont know what to do with that but I''ll ask you guys for advise when I need it.

So you want to take the diamonds out of the ring on the left and use them to make a channel set ring? Do you intend for the ring to have diamonds 1/2 way around or are you wanted an eternity band?

Unfortunately you can't tell the weight/size of the stones from a pic. What you might want to do is go and ask a jeweler (or maybe an appraiser) to at least measure the diameter size of the stones (they will have a caliper they can measure with, although it may be difficult to use the caliper on the surrounding stones in that setting). I am not sure if you are planning to add more stones, but if you are, you know what diameter to go for if you can get a caliper measurement. The diameter size alone won't tell you the weight of the stone, and it would be difficult (I think) in that setting to get enough measurements to do a formulaic estimation. Also, if you want to, once the stones are removed from the setting to be reset for you, you can have them drop the stones on a scale and then you will know the weight if that is really what you are after.

ETA: channel set is a good idea for your job, although you will probably need a good ring cleaner as lots of use of lotion/soap and possible powder from gloves (if not powder free) will subject you to dirty diamonds!

Hello, thanks guys.

I don''t know I have small hands so I think these 8 diamonds would go all the way or 3/4 the way around. My mom thinks they are about .25 each. I wear a 4 1/2 size ring.
